I saw one in the wild just recently while eating at a restaurant. He was a table away, and I was not really paying attention, so I didn't notice until I heard the very obviously male voice from a table that I'd thought had two women sitting at it. Once I actually looked, he did not pass. Despite my sperging about trannies here, I am pretty "live and let live" in real life, and the guy was at least dressed like an actual woman rather than a prostitute anime girl, so I didn't stare or do anything that he might notice and feel uncomfortable.
One thing I did notice though was the woman he was sitting with (they did not seem to be romantically involved), who was well-dressed and pretty enough but was also what you might charitably call a "big girl." I wonder if the women who used to be renowned for latching onto gay men because they were unsuccessful in heterosexual relationships but still desperate for male attention are now doing the same with MtF troons.
Another one I bumped into a earlier this year in a semi-professional environment, and I came very close to doing a comical double-take, not because he was transgender, but because of the way he was dressed. Imagine someone's stereotypical caricature of a woman from the 1950s: patterned dress, shiny high-heeled pumps, and then an old-fashioned pageboy haircut/wig. All on a guy that looked like someone's fat uncle. My brain momentarily interpreted it as a fancy-dress costume and it completely threw me. I'm sure he gets at least one person fired a day for asking with sincerity if he lost a bet.
Since then I have seen other troons in the Sideshow thread and have realized this is not uncommon; actual women might need to wear subdued clothing in professional environments to be taken seriously, but the token troon can be counted on to show up in a bright sundress and hooker heels.
