I've never really been a huge part of Lugenpresse or Deep Thoughts to have a real opinion on things, but I can remember a time where I came on a thread concerning something like colonialism or whatever and I gave my two cents. I was in the minority opinion and people called me out for it, but I never really got offended about anything. I think it was
@Vitriol who was replying to me and he made some good points, and some points that I highly disagreed with. For me, that was a good example of a topic discussion gone right. Nobody was really shitting up the thread or trying to trigger, they were just saying what they felt on the matter and sometimes backed it up with sources.
But now once we get to the whole "Trump Wars" saga, everybody feels the need to show their true colors for some reason by expressing the fact that they aren't happy with the way things are going in society. So instead of going to counseling or family to talk about it they just have to get on the Farms and call people out for being lolcows or alt-right. I remember when we had halal users like Homer, Waifu (if you can call her that), Woody Chan, and Golgo and for me they were hilarious because they were just being themselves: weird, eccentric, trying to fit in with the crowd. Their misguided actions led to their ridicule, but it was a fun ride getting into their backstories and what exactly makes them be the way they are. They are in some sense lovable losers that users here still talk about.
But now we have idiots like Asterisk who at every turn constantly try to start unnecessary shit with other Kiwis not because they are eccentric people, they are just autistic as fuck and they don't have any redeeming charm whatsoever. I feel if we halal these users that it will just be a thread of infighting because really nobody likes these types of users, not even in an ironic fashion. I recall people saying about certain users "they are trying to be the next Dynastia and CatParty" but I highly doubt it; these users have salt soaking up their brain matter and they only want discussion that they feel is their safe space. Hillary lost, the alt right conspiracy doesn't exist, Trump will be your president for the next 4 years, stop complaining and get a hobby.
