You can tell it's both. A lot of the posts on r/honesttransgender and other subs are trans folx admitting that reality is starting to hit them, and asking their peers to give them a hit of copium so they can go back to the fantasy. People who have personality disorders like narcissism do, from time to time, begin to notice the way things really are beyond the illusion they create to protect their ego, they just refuse to accept it and double down on the act. Agreed. There's a term for what you described that's called "Finkel-Think". It comes from Arthur J Finkelstein. The whole system made everything about Muh Ebil Conservatives vs. Muh Ebil Liberals, but Finkelstein led the way when it came to rhetoric. The UK isn't much better though. It's more or less still Conservative vs. Liberal at the end of the day with the multiple party system only obscuring that fact. In the UK politics you're either Conservative or pro-Trans just like it is in the US.
