People would have a meltdown over it if it happened, but its okay, I just feel like she would have a sick moveset since she comes from an aerial fighting game + psychic powers
Looks like Touhoufest is going viral enough to be featured on twitter news, although of course, the eosd remake was trending for far longer. Ver archivo adjunto 9173422
I'd say that his earlier art has a weirdly ethereal style to it, something that can't really be replicated today. In terms of ZUN art, I'm biased towards Perfect Cherry Blossom. Ver archivo adjunto 9149771Ver archivo adjunto 9149775
Personally, i feel like when someone says 'it has this ethereal quality that can't be replicated today', 90% of the time it's just that the shading is so light (or poorly scanned) that highlights become large swathes of white.
See also: Satoshi Tajiri's art.
It's not too hard to replicate in theory - just watercolour with a light touch - but it's often avoided because it can muddy what is meant to be actually part of the pallette and what is just a rampant highlight. To say nothing of the massive highlights blending with actually white things.
Moreover, this effect often comes at least partially from bad scans, particularly from watercolour art. Compare how the ivysaur in the high quality scan on the left has not just a pinker bulb, but smaller white patches on it compared to the one of the right:
You can see this same effect when comparing meiling scans (though to a much lesser extent on the highlights front): A more vibrant green and smaller highlights.
And frankly, watercolour just has a lot of efforts and risks that can be circumvented with doing it more digitally, hence why that style has haded over time.

...okay most of that was just wrong, and doesn't apply to ZUN's art. Zun makes digital art, so there is no "bad scan." It's a jpeg. He painted all that white.
And the white areas in old Pokemon art, specifically with Sugimori's watercolor style, have to be meticulously maintained. I've tried. You have to carefully dab, and blend the edges, to prevent the hard edge:
You can even see the bleed in Prof Oak's leg, when he was trying the soften the edge, but used too much water:
It's not easy.
But that doesn't apply because, again, zun be using jpegs.

I had a realization about the EoSD remaster.
Release on a Nintendo console means we could potentially see a 2hu in Smash. Who would you guys want in?
I'd want Yuugi, because they could probably pull some sick animations with her not dropping the hoshiguma dish. Plus, she weilds the unexplainable...and how else could you explain her being in Smash Bros!
(and I finally bought the fumo of my actual fav 2hu and I'm excited. I hope Mystia gets one some day)
Realistically, I think there's six candidates who could be touhou reps in Smash: Reimu, Marisa, Flandre or Remilia, Cirno, and one other. Reimu is probably the most likely candidate, but the rest can all fill interesting niches. It'd come down to what gaps in the roster thematically would the smash team like to fill:
- Reimu is the obvious first candidate. The only reason she wouldn't be picked is if the fact she's kind of a priestess gives the localisers icky feelings.
- Next is Marisa. If Reimu fails, Marisa's the obvious next choice. Established fighting game moveset, smash lacks an actual true classical witch character, the closest being things like Zelda, Palutena and particularly Rosalina, but even she's got more of a fairy godmother vibe. Marisa slots in very nicely as someone who carries that classic witch vibe and is more of an aggressive powerhouse. Plus, her broom makes for some fun stuff as well.
- Flandre is the most obvious of the non-protag picks. She has some fighting game cred, she's an iconic character, she has great final smash potential, she's in the game that's coming to the switch and the most iconic Touhou game, there's a lot of fun to be had there. Smash also lacks a vampire character aside from the boss Dracula (and there's some potential for humour there with the Belmonts). These reasons all apply to Remila as well, but i think Flan has the edge - as much as I'd love to see Remi do a charisma guard in smash.
- Cirno could be in for much the same reasons as Flandre, plus she'd also be an ice-wielding character. We haven't had someone who focuses on that since the Ice Climbers, who are more alpine-themed than ice-themed and don't really lean into the potential of the ice. Cirno would open the door to things like snowball attacks and ice blades and other more interesting forms of icy aggression.
- And the most out-there pick is... Kogasa! Are you surprised? She's iconic enough to skirt by, she has at least some experience in Sunken Fossil World, and she'd probably be open to the most out-there moveset of the lot. She's also probably the easiest way to get an umbrella-wielding character into the game, (as well as a classical japanese youkai type) and the fact her umbrella is a part of her opens up some other fun mechanics with it. Honestly, I see her more as an assist trophy than anything else, but it's still distinctly possible, I think.
Everyone else is just not as likely. Most side-protags (reisen, youmu, sanae) either have overlap with other smash characters or would be disqualified at the same time reimu is. The exception is Sakuya, but she's not gonna rep TH6 when the scarlets are right there. Yukari could have a chance, but she's not in th6 and I just don't see her beating anyone from that game - and she'd end up overlapping a fair bit with bayonetta, as an 'older portal witch' type.
Personally, I'd vote for Reimu. She's not my absolute fave here, but a lot of my true faves are hakurei hangers-on and It'd be my best chance to get them in as a stage or similar rep. absolute favourite out-there pick would be Shinmy - there's just so much havoc you could wreak with her weird moveset and size powers.

Sumi I just feel gets squeezed out, mostly by Joker. We already have one gun-toting school student with supernatural powers, we don't need another even with her junk-fu.

If Fire Emblem is allowed to have 7+ different swordfighters characters (not even mentioning the 3 different versions of Link that we have), what is one more japanese high-school student this time around with psychic powers and occasional power complexes included gonna hurt, Sumi can't let her touhou character career end with the disgrace of Violet Detector, so she needs to redeem her name in pure grandeur!
Still, if it was entirely up to ZUN's own decision of who to put in smash, he would 100% ask for Mamizou and I wouldn't even be against it nor be surprised.

Mainly I just don’t think she adds much to the roster. Moreover, touhou’s more ensemble cast does a lot for potential variety. Part of the reason Smash is plagued with sword fighters is that it heavily favours the main characters of any given game to be included by nature. But touhou’s cast has a fairly large roster of candidates, nearly all of whom are unconventional fighters but fully viable to rep the series.
And you want to use a slot on the brainrot girl?
Fuck that. Give me the weird shit only viable to Touhou. Give me the witch or the funny ice fairy.
gimme Mystia
make her a zoner with food projectiles (all lampreys), kinda floaty, and her final smash is her and kyouko screaming, and temporarily blinding everyone
