do we really need any more of these frustrations when video games are supposed to be fun, especially when almost all of these try to emulate ZUN's bad art?
I think it's fun when competent artists try to make art styles out of "bad" artist's stuff. And I mean, it's not like ZUN is the worst artist on the planet, his drawings have a certain charm to them even if I think his newer work has lost some of it, so it's fun seeing someone trying to give it that extra bit to make it actually good.
I'm more disappointed by the fact it's just ANOTHER shmup fangame. Like, we already have like 25+ of those official games, do we really need any more of these frustrations when video games are supposed to be fun

it does its job, and that's all it needs to do. seeing his growth, and how he's gotten better over the years is just a nice bonus

she grew a nose!
but c'mon look at Sanae from 19, and tell me he didn't get better.
Her hands are weird, but it's because there's some depth to them that isn't being conveyed well. It's not like Remilia in 6 where...idk what's going on there.

ZUN's art is an acquired taste, especially the potato waifus from the pre-2010's. Sakuya and Meiling from EoSD look so goofy that you can't help but chuckle at them, Patchouli has her thumbs on the wrong side of her hands, Satori has T-Rex micro arms, Miko has two right hands, and then there's the legendary Hina Face.
This series would not be the same if it had professional artwork, because then it'd just feel like generic anime art and fall into the crowd.

I'd say that his earlier art has a weirdly ethereal style to it, something that can't really be replicated today. In terms of ZUN art, I'm biased towards Perfect Cherry Blossom.

Imagine how strange it would be if you were still forced to play on Normal and above to access level 6, but was somehow allowed to use infinite lives there (and maybe even in the Extra mode).
