While i enjoy Touhou itself i prefer staying away from the fandom. Around 2009/2010 i tried to take my first steps into it and dunno, it seemed kind of elistic and way too buttoned up. Back then the fandom seemed quite small to me.
I remember how it is/was a bloody sin to even mention the words "Touhou" and "Anime" in one sentence, leading to fans sperging out and "informing" you how Touhou is not an Anime.

You can tell how horrible of a human being is by their favorite touhou characters. This is a powerlevel because I know more than half of the characters.

Red alert teir: Kioshi and Flandre (lolis that dress up in loli costume)
High caution tier: Nazarin and Remilia (lolis that dress up in childish costumes)
Tier 3: Cirno and Mystia (Lolis that are popular chracters with memes)
Tier 4: Saiuka and Youmu (lolis that don't have defining features not associated with prepubescent girls. Drunk and sword user respectively)
Tier 5: Patchouli and Spider lady (possibly not loli)
Teir 6: Orin and Riesen(At worst, the fan are ephebophiles)
Teir 7: Utsuho and Yukari (these are adult characters)

Most of the CP community are teir 1-4. 3-5 are possibly okay.

Special tier: Anyone with a Patchouli avatar is basically is a shut in with no plans to ever change.
 
It took me a long time to try to comprehend why Toe Hoes is so popular, especially with Western fans where most of the Japanese mythology element would be lost. I mean, I like a good shmup game as much as anyone else, but I couldn't understand the hook here.

Then I realized: Touhou is a world where EVERYONE can 'be the little girl'. That's the appeal.

And that's a world I would never want to live in, tbh.
 
I don't really like the implication that everyone who likes a certain Touhou character is automatically Satan. Yeah, the loli overtones are a thing to be aware of, but I don't think finding a character who looks young to be visually appealing immediately makes you a closet pedophile.

Agreed. I looked into this fandom after hearing a lot about it and wanting to know why it was so popular, and here's a brief overview of the different spheres of fandom in regards to the art:

The meme artists: Generally the sanest of the bunch. Mostly cutesy stuff referencing Touhou injokes and memes (like the yukkuri bit), these artist tend to just enjoy the cutesy art and humor of the "lore"

Typically found: A lot of these on Deviantart, even has shown up in the Daily Life With Monster Girl manga and anime (the creator is a Touhou fan)

The porn artists: Depends. It runs the gamut of the adult characters to the loli shit, with one end of the scale being typical R34 nonsense, and the other extreme being sick fucks I wouldn't trust around kids.

Typically found: Look up Touhou hentai doujinshi on Google, not hard to find at all.

The crossover artists: For some weird reason, Touhou art and characters are used in a lot of crossover art, with some being odd yet amusing, typically tends to be used to spoof or parody whatever the crossover is.

Typically found: Image boards for the most part.
 
I can understand people liking the games or whatever but I don't get why anyone is interested in the characters.
From the one 2hu I played once it seems like every character is exactly the same uninteresting, poorly drawn little girl and the story is boring and irrelevant.

From what I've seen, it's because ZUN's characters are basically blank slates aside from one or two defining characteristics, allowing people to basically turn everything into their head canon fantasies. This also goes hand-in-hand with why a lot of Touhou fanstories end up being shipping stories of some kind.

Seriously though, hentai/ecchi isn't "autistic" per se, unless and probably when it becomes an unhealthy obsession. As for it being unscrupulous or immoral, I think that depends on the circumstances.

I don't think that always indicates highly questionable values. Like I said, some Touhou fans seem to prefer adult version(s) of those underaged characters, for example.

As someone who's a bit of an outsider when it comes to Touhou, I'm kinda impressed that a series of bullet hell games gained such popularity. I always assumed those kinds of games were more of a niche than that.

Then again, I suppose a lot of these people aren't fans because of the gameplay...

My guess is that more of the porn artists never even touched the games.

The artists who are fans of the memes appear the most aware, if nothing else, since being a Touhou memefag means you have a fairly meta understanding of the whole Touhou fandom community, and I've rarely seen any fucked up meme art (Most Touhou injokes are pretty tame to begin with). The porn shit is somewhat more pathetic, either just using the already blank slates as fap fuel ciphers, and some of the crossover shit is classic fandom shoehorn nonsense.

It's all silly as hell, but at least the Touhou memefags appear to be at the shallow end of the WTF pool.

You got it on the porn part. Some is just taking the legal age look characters and applying the porn treatment to them, and the less depraved types age up the loli types, and the most depraved types make stuff that could get you arrested if it was live action.

And yeah, have yet to to see Touhou meme stuff that was worse than "ok, what's the joke?" level, but some of the porn is definitely fucked up, while some of the crossover stuff will make you eyes roll pretty hard (the Metal Gear Solid/Touhou pictures I've seen were bizarre even by MGS standards, which is a fairly nutty series by itself).

And by "fap fuel chipers", the plot in most Touhou doujinshi is almost entirely pulled out of the writer's ass, with a few canon facts (and there isn't much) about the setting mentioned at most, which the characters being generic porn star stand ins for whatever the author wants you to beat off to, since the actual Touhou characters, going strictly by the games alone, have almost no personality themselves.

On topic: Porn comics about videogame characters needs to follow the game's canon, I agree. I think we can all agree.

This has been a pretty boring thread. Hey, rule 34, also some people are pedos. I have learn absolutely nothing.

Also, I must point out this is a fandom and not a community. There is a rule about no fandoms for a reason. It's even up there at the top of the page. There are lots of different communities.

Pixiv has always been a hotbed of pedo art, so there's no reason that shrinemaiden.org to be lump into the same thread just because they like the game people happen to make porn of elsewere.(at least I'm pretty sure that there's not a lot of porn there.). Even the fanfiction example was a lone wolf so what community? Could someone actuality point to a specific site worth a thread?

Any references to Japanese mythology in Two Who are just as absurd as Christian elements in Evangelion. Either the fans worldwide don't know nor care, or know how botched it is and like other aspects of the series.

Yeah, perverts may be gross but they're not lolcows necessarily.

I did a search and found this guy who I tried to find out more about since he looks potentially like a lolcow but all I found out is he's from Russia:
