Honest question for my fellow kiwis. Does Tom have any semblance of musical ability? From my perspective, he doesn't. Nothing he plays even comes close to seeming like music to me, but I'm not musically inclined and thus I submit that maybe he has talent and ability that I'm just not able to appreciate. It sounds to me like he just makes noise with no rhythm or anything that resembles timing or music.

At 16:35-18:50, I think he tries to play the worst rendition of Amazing Grace that I've ever heard. If I'm right, he butchered the fuck out of it and deserves a solid beating.
He's better than Chris-chan. And his music is less ugly than his face.

More seriously, I think he has a kind of second-grader level of musical ability. He can use the instrument to make sounds which, taken together, resemble musical pieces he is trying to make. It is just full of errors and mistakes and the timing is all off. Even worse is that, like many lolcows, he doesn't realize how much he sucks and needs to improve. Look at him (yes I know, it's fucking hard to) playing Amazing Grace on his recorder. He thinking "jazzing it up" like a pro and not playing the song poorly like a goddamn spaz.

I will be frank - I think he a better musician than I am. But I am not busking on the streets or on the Internet streaming my incompetence for complete strangers to see and hear.
Who breaks in a recorder? It's a fucking hunk of plastic. You don't tune it. You take it out of it's plastic sleeve, toot on it and then realize how stupid you look.
"An unbreakable plastic [ocarina] is seriously threatening the recorder's shrill monopoly of music-making for minors; an instrument of sacrifice is very aptly replaces an instrument of torture." -- Micheal Copley, Director of the Chuckerbutty Ocarina Quartet, Liner Notes for The Classical Ocarina (1991).

I don't know about that. I got the CD, and while a million times better than Tooter's work, it still feels like it pales compared to what real musicians can do with the recorder.
