There's something I've seen numerous times in this thread that I want to comment on/refute
A fatty can in fact look like Jabba the hutt, and still die of malnutrition from not eating "enough"
However, as has become a running theme for my long running, clinical sounding, probably boring but people seem to be reading it anyways posts, There is a key difference the lolcows in question fundamentally misunderstand.
Malnutrition isn't Starvation. these people aren't suffering and/or dying because they aren't "listening to their bodies" and not giving them food, their bodies are cab drivers screaming in a thick armenian accent they refuse to understand while they plug their ears, the whole figurative Crown Vic going careening off a bridge into a major body of water.
These people think calories are the only thing needed to survive, but surprise surprise, humans need things to alive, including but not limited to:
23 distinct amino acids
6-15 different vitamins, depending on how you define vitamin (some amino acids are also vitamins, including the B group, which is why they give so much energy)
3-5 different metaloid ions, all of which can reach toxicity
a dozen or so minerals
and so many other fucking random, naegling things that it's no small wonder that nutrition is it's own degree
so, while on the calorie front, shoving your mouth full of hyper-refined carbohydrates makes it incredibly easy to meet your daily needed caloric intake, chances are, even despite taking a multivitamin, you're not hitting the numbers you need to, especially considering that if these people are doing physical activity (which they're most likely not, I've resigned myself to that fact) the sheer amount of potassium they'd need to be intaking to prevent horrible muscle cramps would require a TJ kirk style Bananema, daily.
not to mention it does actually take more calories overall to keep you alive at higher weight classes, but it also requires higher levels of nutrition to keep you in proper health.
this comes with an unfortunate caveat; when people hear "death by malnutrition" they figure it's synonymous with "death by starvation" since both are often used to describe why people die during food shortages, but they're often two distinct categories. A releif worker dropping dead on the job because of a horrid electrolyte imbalance is death by malnutrition, but so is the kid who's been subsisting on UN nutrislurry, and finally keels over due to a B vitamin defficiency. they're both malnutrition related deaths, but the second one occurs because starvation set them up, and malnutrition knocks them down.
the inverse is why HAES crazies can drop dead "out of the blue" due to "dieting" their body is leeching off stored calories, but the body is extremely bad at holding on to nutrients, so when their body tells the "EAT SOMETHING FATTY TASTING TO GET ME SOME COMPLETE AMINOS BEFORE YOU KILL US BOTH" because cravings for fat generally meant consuming nuts or red meat, they misinterpret it as "CONSUME MORE DORITOS" and then die for their ignorance.
I often speak of the Dumb Monkey vs. Smart Jellyfish analogy when talking about the body's reaction to weight loss, but in this case, the monkey is at least smart enough to know how to survive. meanwhile, upstairs, all you can hear in the central offices is slivers of "fatspirational" tess munster speeches between the horrid screeches of a 56k modem dialing up.
TL;DR: Malnutrition and Starvation aren't the same thing. These morons certainly aren't starving themselves like they claim, they've malnourished themselves into an early grave
