I agree, but opening a prostitution school where you can learn to become a pimp or women can learn to pimp themselves won't suddenly turn prostitution into a legitimate and safe business practice

I think what baffles me the most about the whole "prostitution is about women taking control of their own bodies" thing is that it's not at all what happens. A prostitute is not there to do what she (or he) wants, they're there to do what the customer wants. Yes, you might be able to set boundaries if you're a high-end prostitute, but you're here to fulfill your client's needs. Even in those legalized Nevada brothels the men who own the place will tell the workers that they have to do whatever certain VIP customers want regardless of how the girls feel about it.
As a prostitute you will no doubt be faced with doing things you don't like, and that often comes with the choice of "I can say 'no' and lose clients" or "I can say 'yes' and earn enough money to pay my bills". I don't agree with demonizing sex workers, but I also don't agree with this over-glorification of it.

Jordan does realize that most of this pro sexworker crap comes from cam girls and the like? I'm positive women who are forced into actual prostition would disagree.

I've also noticed that the people glorifying prostitution have either never done sex work or are one of the "lucky ones". That Emma woman, for example, obviously made a serious investment into her image. She got professional photos, a nice looking site, and probably comes from a higher class background where she could afford to treat her sex work more like a business and therefore charge almost 1K for an hour. She can also be her own pimp, which is a luxury.
The large majority of prostitutes can't afford that shit. They're poor, uneducated women who often feel as if they have no other viable alternative and tend to be addicted to various substances &/or afflicted with STDs. Pimps will also exploit various weaknesses to keep them "on a leash" which degrades their value as human beings even further. I want these SJWs to spend a week living the life of a poor, inner city prostitute and then tell me how fucking glamorous it is.
I don't think Jordan and Co. would react well to being treated like a literal piece of shit that only exists to serve others.

A few years ago there was talk of some local unions looking to get prostitution legalized and unionized... It never happened, but there were several reasons for that. Mostly being mental illness, substance abuse and losing access to welfare. (Outside of those who were members of the unions angry at the heads for even considering it)

Isnt one of the arguments of legalizing prostitution to take away power from the pimps? I mean yeah the Moonlight Bunny Ranch in Nevada isnt exactly a model for how it should be regulated. I was more thinking of something like the red light district in Japan where anyone can solicit services on their own. There also those cop booths on every corner.
Also couldnt legalizing prostitution cut down on human trafficking. Granted it wont end it especially the trafficking of underage girls but couldnt it help minimize adult human trafficking?
Im not surprised since many Union workers are politically in the Hard Hat category.

Sites like Craigslist and Backpage and stuff have made pimps less common, allowing women to be their own boss and making 'freelancing' easier. That's not to say there aren't women being pimped against their will, and some pimps keep up with the times and use the internet themselves, but for women who aren't necessarily 'forced' into prostitution--they're doing it because they need money for bills or drugs or whatever, not because they're being forcibly trafficked--they don't really need a pimp or a spot on a street corner anymore. Pimps are still dangerous as fuck, they're just less common than they used to be.

Considering one of the unions covered home healthcare workers, it's kind of obvious why they didn't want to be affiliated with prostitutes.

What's really galling is that these fuckers then come trouncing into messageboards and the like where women are talking about how difficult their experiences were and shit all over it, screaming about oppression and silencing and doing actual violence with those words etc etc. We're abusers, apparently. Actual murderers. Whatever drugs they're smoking, I wish they'd stop.

Prostitution is going to be around whether it's legal or not. The best way to deal with it is to legalize it, but have a strictly enforced sex workers' bill of rights that puts the power in the hands of the individual sex workers, not the brothel owners. The best way I can think of to do that is to require that licensed brothels be coops owned by the workers employed there rather than traditional private businesses. The sex workers would be independent, and would pay for security, a room, but would set their own rates, decide their own limits, etc. Yeah, there'd still be the issue of losing clients if they didn't do something the client wanted, but it would be ultimately up to them, not the owner of the brothel. Tax the revenue from legal brothels, and use it to fund anti-trafficking programs. Also, trafficking should be punishable by a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
Of course, none of this is possible without a massive public shift in the view of sex workers, and this plan isn't perfect. But locking people up for selling sex is a bad idea, especially if they were forced into it.

I generally have nothing against the homeless. Finding a safe place to sleep at night where you won't be harassed by the police or other dangerous people isn't something I'd begrudge them. Thomas and his ilk though strike me as the types who like to trash the area they bed down in or sleep in open spaces where they're in the way. You know, the type of people that forces law enforcement to crack down on other homeless people.
This assumes of course that Tom has ever actually been homeless and isn't just another white boy pretending to be something he isn't.
