My family had one of their CDs while I was growing up so they're a huge source of nostalgia for me. The fact they also did the theme song for Malcolm in the Middle also helped.

Also fun fact, they also did the instrumentation for the Oblongs theme song. It's one of those things that makes a lot of sense when you realize it.

TMBG are very hit and miss for me. I chalk it up to them playing it fast and loose with their style, but that could just be them trying more things over time.

I remember seeing that on Tiny Toons as a kid. I always feel like them and Barenaked Ladies could almost be the same band.

I've been a fan of theirs since the early 90's. As was said, they're kinda hit or miss, but they're an incredibly prolific band, so it isn't all that surprising. Not really everyone's kind of thing, and it isn't something I'd listen to every day, but a decent chunk of their stuff is good. Probably my favorite of their albums is Lincoln, though Flood is a close second. I personally liked John Henry a great deal, though it's one of the more contentious albums among the fans since it's much more guitar rock-oriented. Most of their later albums are a bit more formulaic, so it's harder to recommend them, but I think I Like Fun is my favorite of them.

They actually have some pretty good children's albums, which, given that 99.9% of children's albums are outright painful to listen to, is pretty impressive.

I went to a summer camp where all the kids had to stand out in front of the cafeteria at mealtime grouped by cabins and sing to be allowed in.

One of the songs the counselors made us sing was particle man.

Great band, really killer melodies over some pretty interesting chord progressions. I prefer JL's contributions to JF's (JL's solo album was mostly disappointing but the tracks that do work are amazing). Favorite album is Lincoln but pretty much all the major releases between (and including) the self-titled and Factory Showroom work for me; I also have a huge nostalgic soft spot for The Spine.
Their social media presence is annoying, but who cares, if I limited myself to good and based musicians I'd just be listening to Ariel Pink all the time.

I used to like them a lot a couple of years ago but at some point I just stopped enjoying them. One of my favorite songs of theirs that I don’t see anyone talk about is “I’m Impressed” off of the album “The Else.” To me it doesn’t even sound like a TMBG song, you’ll have to listen to see what I mean.

Car Seat Headrest also has a sample/reference to “Ana Ng” at the end of his song “Cute Thing” which is cool since both are some of my top played on spotify.
