Yeah, it sucks. A lot of people will cope with, "just play indie", but most indie stuff either just plain sucks, or is trying way to hard to emulate older good stuff anyway, and being mid at best. I've just been playing the original Rayman games and some Final Fantasy 7 lately and that's been fun. I never played them as a kid, so it's not nostalgia goggles. I guess something about modern day devs just keeps them from making anything good.

You can always play old ones, depends on your taste, or if you just want new games.
For example, a good one that is indie (that came in 2019 I think): Baba Is You. One of the many, if you have not played it yet.
One of my favourites for the DS: Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky, and for the GameBoy: Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team. Also liked Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin.
All of this stuff seems ancient, but I don't know if you want current stuff, and what have you played before.

Exactly, Indie is just as bad as AAA. Both sectors basically produce the same 3 shitty games over and over again. I'm so so utterly sick of procedural generation "rogue-lite" games. And AAA open world games.
OG Raymen and FF7 were some of my favs as a kid those are great games. Although the first Rayman is way too bloody hard once you get to the pencil levels.
Somehow modern devs just don't know how to make a game.
I like old games but I've mostly played everything I want to play and I don't often go back and play something again.
I did play Baba Is You I thought that was an alright puzzle game.
I've not played Pokemon Mystery Dungeon before. Those games should be called "rogue-lite" not things like Hades I/II. As Pokemon like the other console rogue-likes are rogue but with a lot of the world interaction elements taken out.
I'm not sure what I'm looking for really, I just want to get into deep into something.
Emulate what though? I can't think of what I have not played that I want to play. What are you playing?
Do you know there is not a single fucking FPS game on Steam to play? Has no FPS game come out since the boomer shooter stuff a few years ago?

Then you should try the Pokémon ones, they are somewhat easy as you'd expect (but also have some hard stuff, and extra hard at the end), music is great, and immersion too.
If you like this stuff, you will get deep into the story (at least from my experience); there are several versions in the typical Pokémon fashion, as I posted though, I recommend first the "Red rescue team" (the other is "Blue rescue team", but try Red because it has better music); and "Explorers of Sky" (best version of the 3; other 2 are explorers of space, and explorers of time, which were expanded with Sky).
There's like a million games though, maybe play Catherine: Full Body.

Imo "triple A" games or anything made by massive corporations are maximum sloppa, however indie games, small studio games and 'mid' size game devs have been in the best spot I've ever seen.
If you look past corpo sloppa and dig deeper you'll find some gems. I'm enjoying the shit out of deep rock galactic, v rising, vampire survivors and megabonk lately. Valheim is also a lot of fun.

I thought Otter was fun. It's pretty easy, but if you buy two decks it can accommodate up to eight. Final Girl had a new expansion this year, of solitary games are more your style.

This. There's more retro games out there than you'll ever have time to play. You could spend hours a day just trying out old games that you never played before. It's way more fun than AAA glitchfest slop.

i feel like the only people who say this are people who are just burnt out on gaming or are trying to chase the same childlike wonder they got when playing games as a kid, as far as i can see gaming is in the best place it has been in ever and its only going to get better. the recent shift towards indie has allowed for some of the most unique games to be made practically ever (early pc games made from incomprehensible graphics and systems may just slightly still beat modern gaming tho).
all else fails you can just play old games but people who wish to constantly complain about gaming seem to forget this simple fact. its not like the classics are getting worse in fact some are getting better to this day, ive been enjoying my 493795th playthrough of terraria because the devs cant figure out what a final update actually means.

In indie you have to do leg work to find the good shit in your niche. I've mainly been enjoying retro rps games but even in that niche there's endless slop so you still have to find the gems in the shit which takes more than sorting by popularity. You could also find a reviewer you personally gel with for recommendations, I've found many games because of sseth like intravenous, synthetik, underrail, etc.

Catherine, I like the alcohol lore at the bar, but I can't stand the sex with women plot, I try to stay away from romance games.
I've played all of those games and none of them floated my boat. Vamprie survivors is like a casino game. Megabonk is 5 years too late, it's building slightly on vamprie survivors but not enough for coming out in 2025.
I'm sorry for being harsh, yeah the AA games is the best bet, there is the odd okay game there but it's like the rare diamond in the sewage that you see once a full moon.
That looks pretty funny but I imagine it's the type of game that has players for a month and then you spend 20 hours queuing for a round and then get tea-bagged imediately the moment you load into a map

I've played all the games I wanted to play. It's hard to find anything to get into anymore. the problem is that it's been 26 years since the year 2000 and I've been surviving off old games alone since then so I ran out of new things.
I played it and it was pretty fun, not with any mods though. But I've been there done that. What mod you playing with?

Indie games are fucking terrible, AAA games are fucking terrible.
IT's all slop, nothing comes close to the classics of the golden era.
There is a reason no games from the last 20 years are nostolgic and nobody goes back to them.
But yes, I am burnt out, and I am looking for that same immersion I felt when I was young, maybe it's not possible as a cynical old man.

Mewgenics is coming out tchewsday, it's gonna be some premium goyslop. I've been waiting for the longest time for it.
Other than that, yeah just play old games, I played bioshock for the second time after 10 years and it's still a pretty good game, jewsperging aside. Very good game for 2007 standards.
