On February 17, 2019, a YouTuber called MattsWhatItIs created a now viral video in which he compiles evidence that YouTube is facilitating the sexual exploitation of children. Keep in mind that, as he himself has stated, this isn't a new point of contention, and people have been aware of this since 2017's Elsagate.

However, soon after this, a bit of controversy concerning Matt himself was kicked up, the one leading the charge being Keemstar.

According to Keemstar, Matt is attempting to start a new Adpocalypse, by telling advertisers to boycott YouTube, which, as he argues, wouldn't hurt the pedophiles, but innocent YouTubers.

According to Keemstar, Matt is potentially a pedophile himself, for he had another channel, called Totally Uncreative, in which he made a (possible joke) video in which he asked a schoolgirl if she wanted to be in an adult film.

So already I'm beginning to see that this controversy will produce more autism than beneficial results.

I don't really know how I feel about Keemstar. He's always been entertaining on the Killstream, but I don't really know much about him.

Good, though. As I said in the thread about advertisers pulling away from YouTube, fuck 'em.

If your shit was really that great you could make your own advertising deals.

The future is super chats anyway. Apparently there is a huge market for paying to get youtube personalities to dance like a performing monkey and repeat your autistic musings to everyone watching.

Keemstar's actions are in a way protecting pedophiles. PhillyD said he would make a video on the topic.

Oh he actually made it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxkdQgLZMRc&feature=youtu.be

Looks like it got censored or something.

On a side note, is keem a lolcow?

What I mean is, I don't know if he has a history of lying about people to stir up drama.
Can keem ever create more appealing thumbnails? His look like shit tbh.

I believe Keem does. Matt doesn't.

Speaking of Keem and Matt, they're having a Twitter fight right now.

Emperor Lemon's thoughts on this subject mirror mine almost perfectly:

Some added statements on my position are needed: I don't care who or what Matt is, it's the soundness and validity his arguments that matter here, and his thesis (YouTube is facilitating the sexual exploitation of children) is both sound and valid, as far as I can tell.

Keemstar can say that YouTube is doing something, but something is not everything. YouTube is almost certainly not doing enough with its automated bot systems to deter pedophiles from, say, swapping child pornography on the platform.

See, I have to disagree that this is hard evidence for a pedophile ring existing "on YouTube." These are just dumb pedophiles, a considerable amount whom don't even speak English, leaving their fixations out in the open for everyone to see. They don't care.
That being said, the fact that YouTube, practically a megacorporation with an invisible hand in the concept of video-sharing, is hosting what one can assume is millions of hours of children under the age of 13 without any obvious concern or oversight whatsoever really proves, to me at least, that no one gives a shit about COPPA.

Matt was apparently a hardcore "NoFap" advocate back in the day, apparently recovering from an internet porn addiction. By "back in the day" I mean circa 2017.

Control + F "matt"

Search for "mattwhatitis nofap" for more.

I think that what Matt is trying to do is to get YouTube to do something about the pedos under threat of advertisers pulling out.

when i hear "sexual exploitation of children" i think "third world children being abducted and forced into prostitution by international human trafficking networks" or "daughter pimped out by junkie parents for drug money". you know, serious shit.

calling random videos of kids running around in swimsuits on youtube "sexual exploitation of children" because of perverts in the comments section is not even remotely comparable. stop making these dishonest and exaggerating clickbait titles.
Matt was also talking about how many of these pedophile accounts create miniature rings to swap child porn, and attempt to get the kids to do "challenges" to get them in...compromising poses, so it's not just "random videos of kids running around in swimsuits". And the title of this thread ("The #youtubewakeup Controversy") is neither dishonest or clickbait.

there's a few issues to untangle here.

the first and most important is @BigRuler's point. videos of kids made by parents with poor judgment collated together and published in such a venue that creepos can wank to it and write creepy comments is not child sex slavery or child abuse, though it might be exploitation in some mild sense. anyone talking about this should be honest about what kind of problem it is rather than immediately go all in and say the sky is falling. (that being said, i think pedos wanking to real life children in skimpy clothing is far worse than loli, since actual human children are being sexualised no doubt without their consent.)

second, in one sense, keemstar is right that some youtubers will pay the price if this brings in another adpocalypse. on the other hand, shielding content designed for pedos to protect youtubers' bottom line is not a great hill to die on.

edit: i've watched keemstar's video. i think he's in the right. this matt faggot is a dramawhore who won't take anything YT does as good enough.

on whether or not keemstar is a faggot, he obviously is. i think null said it best when he said that keemstar hates his audience and the kind of content he's boxed himself into doing. he's a fine shit-talker like when he gets on trr and is good at bants and twitter spats, but ultimately, his main source of income is reporting on petty e-celeb drama for children to consume, and i bet that irks him a bit. in this situation he's showing very poor judgment though.

finally, @Memology 101 made a video on this before this clown did.

Are people now realizing keemstar is just youtubes unofficial pr guy?
I though the mumkey shitshow was enought proof of that

I've seen /tv/ threads about this phenomenon long ago. This is nothing new.

In one aspect I can't really fault Youtube. A new video must be uploaded every couple seconds, it's such a powerful service because it allows anyone to upload.

Also how do you ban it without being too draconian? Are you going to make it TOS that children need to be conservatively dressed in video? Will you lose your Youtube account if you show your family at the beach?

Anyone who's "NoFap" is a sad faggot anyways. That alone should bury this dude.

People have sexual urges. Don't be ashamed to rub one out every once in a while, holy shit. Porn isn't a fucking cartoon hypnotizing machine.
