The youth and current music consumption behaviors - I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was.

I'm interested in discussing what the current youth ( 15 - 21 years old) listen to and how music is consumed. As a somewhat older fag, I'm not in the loop with what teh youth listen to. But there's certain anecdotal things I've witness that makes me questions this topic.

  • Kids listen to generic current nigger rap pop but listen to boomer rock ( Creed, Red Hot Chilli Peppers.) When is comes to hip hop, it's about being in the current times and in the zeitgeist. But rock music is more of a nostalgia thing and maybe based on what their GenX parents listen to.

  • They don't really listen to bands or complete albums but listen to curated playlists that are more about a vibe than exploring an artist. It's less about finding a band you like and organic branching off from that to discover new things but instead having a algorithm to feed you in a loop of repetitive, melonic faggotry.

  • They are less inclined to listen to new rock music, Everything is more nostalgia rock and you have a nü-metal renaissance with kids listening to Limp Bizkit and Deftones. Zoomies will say "ok boomer" but consume culture that is literally 40 years old.
I feel kind of black pilled on this but I'm really hoping I'm wrong.
 
It really depends on what kind of group of zoomers you meet. You can't just pinpoint what kind of music habits all zoomers have; that would be ingenuine.
I can certainly say that zoomers have it easier than ever when it comes to discovering and experiencing music.
The only interesting thing I noticed about zoomers is that there's a divide between people goycattle who listen to new music (which is often shit) and people who listen to older stuff.
But that's basically it.
 
As a zoomie, i am very diverse in what i listen to, but usually i just listen to electronic and bits of metal and rock that i find interesting. Turkish psychedelic is another hidden gem no one really ever talks about on this site. Zoomers are interesting in that one half is nigger cattle and the other is full of people like me who like finding interesting music ( that isnt to say rap is bad. Cypress hill and africa bambatta is pretty okay)
 
A lot of zoomers and gen alpha kids listen to music from she-boons rapping about being whores. Some zoomers will think they're better when listening to something like Sabrina Carpenter, but she also sings about being a hoe. Then, they also listen to rap--a genre that has been mostly stagnant since its inception in terms of subject matter; that being cars, money, promoting clothing brands, and being nogs waving guns around and complaining about the police because they're held accountable. Unless they're gay--then, they listen to shit like Chapple Roan. And then zoomer girls and gays also like k-pop, which has zero substance.
Most kids just listen to whatever is trendy because they don't have their own opinions and have FOMO; they desperately want to fit in. Zoomers who claim they are huge fans of music have never listened to an album front-to-back. They just consume singles.

The vast majority of albums (especially anything remotely popular) are just a musically-unconnected series of singles or failed singles anyway. It's damn rare to hear a recurring motif or musical idea of any kind across an entire album and it's nearly exclusive to progressive genres these days.

The state of listening to music on the internet like it's radio is far, far better than radio has become. Especially considering the absolute slop channels available through subscriptions to satellite like Sirius XM. Anything post the deregulation allowing a couple companies to buy up practically every station without limit makes Youtube mixes look like gold by comparison. Playlists that actually have songs befitting the genre they claim they contain are an even further improved option. Can't really say the state of streaming options like Spotify because I couldn't give less of a shit about actually paying to not even own anything.

In fairness, with Sirius you can find good stuff if you're highly selective about what channels you listen to, especially if you include extra channels only available through the app. But yeah, most of it is corpo slop. It's why I have everything set to where it defaults to showing only my favorites so I can just pretend the other stuff doesn't exist.
