Damn. I was really hoping this was an A24 level bait and switch where the trailer mischaracterizes the movie to get butts in seats...to watch a 3 hour movie about the woman king being a vicious slaver, with as much uncomfortable brutality on screen as possible. It’s now labeled as “alternative history” on review sites, so they are definitely trying to cover their tracks in the sleaziest way possible.
The film was marketed almost like clickbait. The trailer makes it look like a group of Africans are fighting off a group of Europeans attempting to enslave them. However in reality it's a 2014-era feministy story about how the men of their country wanna keep doing slavery but the women wanna abolish it. The Europeans are barely in it and the central conflict of the film is related to another African tribe they're fighting. It still does make the people of Dahomey seem more competent than they actually were though and heavily downplays the level of violence and misery they perpetuated. It also neglects to mention the fact that during this era of history they were under constant pressure and attack from the Europeans who demanded they stop enslaving people.Based on the Dahomey nation. They sold other African's into slavery during the time the movie takes place. But I don't think the movie will mention that.
Wonder if any of the audience score reviews are filled with bots as well. It will totally change things as far as online reviews are concerned.Ver archivo adjunto 3699375
Wow, we must be really wrong. The audience loves this movie even more than the critics (Archive). Nothing fishy here at all.
Our guy Scott Mendelson is calling it an Oscar Season contender (Archive).
I mean it's actual woke-baiting bullshit so I wouldn't be surprised if it won Best Picture at the Oscars. It's just rich celebrities jerking themselves off at this point.Ver archivo adjunto 3699375
