The Woman King - So woke, you will need a case of melatonin to sleep.

WE WAZ KINGZ, WE WAS WARRIORZ; imdb 9.5/10, "breathtaking stunning display of female empowerment"

The Dahomey were well known for being vicious slavers with a king that had a mostly female 'honor guard' that were at times rented out as mercenaries. As far as I'm aware they never really impressed with their abilities but I've not deeply researched the topic. Just from the trailer its clear they're giving it the biggest We Wuz Kangs and Wakanda wash they possibly can.

Notably they did not seem to have them using guns or modern weaponry which is something the Dahomey relied upon to keep up their slaving. They relied heavily upon western armaments, money, and supplies to continue on for a time. They will absolutely not show this in the movie.

Feminism and black empowerment could not be any more gay, tired, boring and played out.

The fact that this is turning literal slavers into heroes is the cherry on top of the shit sundae.

At least they're finally doing something based on real Africa for once, it's just a shame that all the interesting details will be sanded over so they don't look bad

I seem to recall the French slaughtered most of them in like one engagement while building French Equatorial Africa. Might've been the British though.

Edit, from Wikipedia. Countdown to this getting yeeted to cover for the movie:

First War
European observers noted that the women "handled admirably" in hand-to-hand combat, but fired their flintlocks from the hip rather than firing from the shoulder The Amazons participated in one major battle: Cotonou, where thousands of Dahomey (including many Amazons) charged the French lines and engaged the defenders in hand-to-hand combat. Despite the compliments given to them by the Europeans, the Amazons were decisively crushed, with several hundred Dahomey troops being gunned down while reportedly 129 Dahomey were killed in melee combat within the French lines

Second War
During a battle with French soldiers at Adegon on 6 October during the second war, the bulk of the Amazon corps were wiped out in a matter of hours in hand-to-hand combat after the French engaged them with a bayonet charge

That seems to line up with what I recall of them, they were mostly considered an interesting little oddity rather than actual effective troops. Though if they're willing to charge the enemy they're at least brave.

Don't expect to see Europeans winning in any of the fights in the movies. It's a weird thing that comes up a lot in black pandering movies that they'll 'honorably' use hand to hand combat to win against tech. Ignore that historically everyone adopted firearms because they were extremely useful including the Dahomey.

Última edición:
I'm really enjoying Viola Davis's "acting" in the trailer. Hunch forward and grunt a lot while looking angry and slightly confused at the big words people around her are using. #oscars #bestactress #bestpicture

One of the easier conquests for the French Foreign Legion at the turn of the century. They weren't no Berbers, that's for sure.
