Frito pies use chili as the base. This does seem to be a close relative.

It just carnival and roach coach food for kids and adults that want a quick snack. A Frito pie is absolutely more well made.

To those unaware, the walking taco/Frito pie has long been normalized to the point of having specific packaging (in countries that matter).
It's an elongated bag.
You can buy them at Walmart, to make at home, or find them at gas-stations/stadiums/conventions where you can top them with however much nacho cheese you desire. I prefer the chili variety to the taco meat ones but as an overall thing it's alright.

I saw a YouTube video recently about a regional fast food chain called Petros. I can't remember if it's in Texas or Arizona. But it's pretty popular.
Their whole business is walking tacos. Apparently they use chili for the meat.
However, once they opened their brick and mortar locations, apparently customers said, "Ok, we get it, but why do we have to eat it out of a bag?"
Which I think is fair criticism. I wouldn't want to eat my food out of garbage, either.
They now serve them in a cardboard bowl. It's easier to eat and get to.

I feel like the walking taco is coming just short of proving that all Mexican food is the same 5-6 ingredients slopped together and if it weren't for texture you could get essentially the same experience tossing them in a blender.

I had to Google what a Frito Pie is, and I don't see how that isn't basically just Nachos by another name.
"Walking Tacos", however, I have to say that I like the idea and have enjoyed one, it has got to be the yuppiest shit imaginable. The people I know who gush about this, is the same flavor of person who fits the archetype of the "I just LOVE the hustle and bustle of the BIG CITY" copypasta.
It's taco ingredients in a bag. It's fine, nothing to write home about. It certainly is a thing you can spend money on. If there were any way to fuck up a taco, this is how you do it, and the result is still fine.
