I was hoping for this scrappy basho to end in a million man playoff, since WTK and Kirishima weren't facing eachother in regulation anymore. Oh well.
 
I couldn't be happier that big meaty Waka won. Of course there'll always be that asterisk next to the tournament that the top contenders were out of action for this one but he was still strong throughout.

Also Ura pulled off some crazy John Wick shit on Day 14.

 
That was a great one, Ura had some great matches this Basho, even his lose to Kiri on day 15 was fun that kick to the leg was sure surprising.
 
With all injuries I wasn't super motivated to watch, but I finally caught up and finished the tournament. Very happy to see Wakatakakage win, though it's a real shame seeing Tamawashi's performance. He has to be retiring; I can't see him going back down to Juryo at his age. Good bye, iron man. :semperfidelis:
 
I doubt it. The man is printing money, he has 8 Kinboshi which means he gets near 2 million yen each tournement he just turns up to as long as he stays in the Sekitori. While a goodly sum when its converted to USD its hardly breath taking but being Mongolian I'm sure it means a lot to his family.
 
I’m surprised this thread is getting hits. @The Un-Clit and I have been chatting in DMs about sumo in general and he pointed me here. The OP is a bit shit and I’ve been considering making a new one covering a more comprehensive range of sumo information. I’m assuming that’d be counterproductive as this thread is actually active, if on life support?

The discussion during each basho is pretty active but since there's a lot of downtime between tournaments the thread usually goes quiet.

Though to be fair this month wasn't as active since everyone was getting injured left and right and dropping out.
 
Maybe apply to re-write the OP since the writer hasn't been seen in 6 years now instead of creating an entire new thread, since the sumo fans who are aware already that there IS a thread (I actually didn't until fairly recently) will probably come here first.

And everybody loves Ura. Even in what has to be described as the later part of his career he still pulls out unbelievable shit like he's seeing the matrix, such as that amazing dodged double-thrust and counter-throw this basho.
 
This one was my favorite of the tournament. There's something weird and unconventional about that leg trip that just looks really cool to me.


As for getting eyes and activity in the thread, we could either harass Josh with superchats about it and maybe a link to a cool match or two, or we could use the recent thread/post feature thing you can do to get seen on the front page.
 
An expanded OP wouldn't hurt with more info. When/how to watch, a few rikishi profiles, maybe listing out some beyaslop channels. More pics also good.

Some kinda watch party for the next basho would be nice. Somewhere chud-safe to drop in and post shit that would get you banned in chat on any of the existing re-streams. I dunno if cytube can do proper live stuff.

This especially. I couldn't fucking believe I got banned from a chat channel for 'racism' when during Wakatakakage's victory ceremony I said I was happy a Japanese rikishi won at Japan's national sport. I mean fuck me, how pearl-clutching can you GET??
 
Could be as simple as streaming to Kick. I don't know how strict they are with niggerwords, but at least if someone here is in control you won't get banned from that chat before jannies sweep you from the site.

Personally I have a group I watch with, but we watch the NHK highlights or Nattosumo three days at a time rather than live. I could stream that (with settings to isolate the footage audio and no voices from us if so preferred), but we do 9PM CET every three days.
 
I like the custom yukata sumo wear outside of the ring on day to day activities. They are always seasonal, much like geisha and it's cute. They are so big.

Curious myself, but the main twitch channel I watch the bashos on isn't covering Paris and I've had other stuff going on so haven't bothered to root around for re-streams elsewhere. If anyone finds one please feel free to post a linkie here, thanks!
