I’m glad they’re not announcing that the launch date of Artemis III has slipped, even though I still expect it to.
Artemis 3 can remain a static launch date until the vehicles are ready. No point in wasting a SLS.

Okay some interesting stuff, the first of this is that Constellation is basically reborn but with Starship, and SLS acting as a glorified Ares-1. But, the benefit with this is with Starship HLS, if it gets flying soon, it will be able to provide a remedy for the time spent trying to get SLS to move onto Centaur. As the docking occurs in Earth Orbit, meaning the upper stage is not needed so thus it can be ballast.

I was wanting to go for a pint, but it turns out the Artemis 3 crew is being announced rn.

And Blue Origin intends to be ready for 2027, which is a positive.

Going to edit as it continues, and new (I think?) SpaceX renders

SpaceX now plans to have the crew transfer to HLS from Orbit with Orion, allowing for more abort modes because of Orion going into NRHO.

Mission Specialist, Andrei Douglas (1st flight)
Mission Specialist 2: Frank Rubio (1 flight, over a year in space)
Pilot: Luca Parmitano (ESA, notable for the spacewalk water leak)
Commander: Randy Bresnik

No women, the Trump has won.
We should have gotten a JSA astronaut to come with us.

JAXA is scheduled to be on, I believe, Artemis 5 as the first international astronaut on the moon. This being because of them building a major rover. This was an act of realpolitik aimed at China during the Biden administration, where a JAXA astronaut was meant to be on the moon before China. I could honestly see NASA pushing it up to Artemis 4 if things end up more chaotic as a means of achieving a political win. This is being done at the expense of ESA (who has been the biggest international partner towards Artemis, even if Gateway is being cancelled/reused).

Andrei? Rubio? Parmitano? Bresnik?

Are these the ethnic cooks who'll be giving our all american boys their sendoff buffet?

Should not be surprised if all the Space Force is is pretty much just remote control operations of satellites and missiles.
Since they manage the satellites it wouldn't surprise me if they were also responsible for monitoring sites and combat zones and providing tactical data, probably all the Air Force people doing that previously were transferred to Space Force.

That's literally what NASA does bro, it's all satellites and missiles.
Remember how Hubble was a pretty big deal and cost as much as an aircraft carrier? They had like 30 of those, so they're at least 30 times cooler, even before you count whatever secret star gates and five year missions they may have forgotten to mention.

This will probably go down like a lead balloon here, but I do find it disappointing there isn’t a woman on the Artemis III crew, not even as a backup. I have no doubt there will be one for Artemis IV though.

If physical traits are so important, why stop at vaginas?

I'm disappointed there wasn't a redhead, a cripple, a Samoan, an adorable 6 year old, someone left-handed, or someone hideously ugly. These are all very under-represented in the astronaut corps and deserve a chance to inspire others just like them.

He's right though; until our scientists confirm the existence of moon sluts, that's one more thing you should bring.

you got some weird tastes man

Wanting more vaginas in space would be perfectly rational if we were sending them up there to have babies. Maybe this ties into the Space Force and there's a secret alien breeding program we don't know about?

I just naively assumed Artemis III was a test flight and the astronauts were selected based on their test pilot experience and skills.

They have changed the mission specs for Artemis III a couple of times at this point I think, wasn't it originally planned to be an orbital refueling test before that entire plan was scrapped? I wonder if that messed up their candidate selection in some way, and they had to go with a more generalized crew for the revised mission. Christina Koch did a great job on Artemis II, and was historically the first woman out of low earth orbit AND first woman around the moon. Artemis III is far less historic than Artemis II so I could also see that leading to a more generalized crew vs a carefully selected crew to accomplish mission goals AND create new milestones.
