The absolute madness gripping Americas cities right now I feel has killed the gun control debate dead. Images of police becoming overwhelmed, stores being looted and a credulous media and political leadership cheering the destruction on has made it abundantly clear that when the chips are down, you either can use force to defend yourself, your family and your property, or you can be a victim of the baying mob.
My personal experience is purely anecdotal, but when I went to my local gun store/range, the place was packed. They were running first time gun owners to the range by the half dozen every 30 minutes. There was even an inner city african american family that had come out to the suburbs, toddlers in tow, to buy firearms and use them on the range. The range safety officer had that put upon stare when I stepped out to the firing line.
It's not over. The leftards will still concoct some argument as to why the gov't should have arms (including bodyguards for politicians and celebrities) but not law-abiding citizens. They'll write off these looter attacks as merely an aberration and claim that gun ownership did little to deter crime while citing pseudo-facts and biased statistical data.
To be frank, I think the apparent polarization over the issue is just overstated. VERY few on the left want complete abolition of the 2nd amendment and VERY few on the right think it should stand without any limitations. The debate has always been about what those limitations should be. Even those ideologically opposed to private ownership of "assault style weapons" still see the value of owning a shotgun for self defense if local conditions warrant it.
More people buying guns doesn't necessarily reflect more people softening their stance on gun control. It simply means they feel the need to buy weapons that they likely already believed should be legal anyway.
I doubt society at large has really changed their view on the matter to any significant degree.
The same people who are strong gun control advocates are currently making excuses for niggers to riot and destroy businesses right now. The debate will never be over unless the talking heads for one head change their tune, or you suddenly lose the diehard believers suddenly change sides. Neither of these things are going to happen any time soon, and as such the debate won't end any time soon.
I think it's optimistic to think a major change will happen, but I think it did change some people's minds. People are fickle and have short memories, but most major cities having rioters run though the streets and the police not fully being able to handle it did shake people up and get them to think about personal safety.

I've never NOT met a grumpy RSO. I don't blame them either. The amount of moronic bullshit I've personally witnessed go down at ranges is insane. (Every range I've ever been to has a ton of bullet holes in the ceiling) I can't imagine putting up with that shit for a living.
I think the people disagreeing with @mindlessobserver are forgetting something important, this is the era of instantly uploaded images and videos to various internet sites, these riots aren't going to leave the public memory for a long time, regardless of what the MSM wants. Furthermore, one thing everyone is forgetting, in my opinion, is that Trump is probably going to be re-elected this November, and he will almost certainly be making a couple SCOTUS appointments in his next term that will firmly tilt the SCOTUS in a pro-2nd Amendment direction. The gun grabbers are fucked for the foreseeable future.
The gun control debate is not a debate of facts and reason. It is a clashing of personalities and temperaments. Those who oppose gun control are self reliant and or desire the power that firearms instill in their owner. Those who support gun control are afraid of those things.
Need to share what happened today in my hometown. The city near where I live has, like every other city in America, been rocked by protests and riots. Protest organizers (all white mind you) decided it was time to take the protest out beyond the city to the suburbs. They were gonna do a triumphant march up the main highway. Businesses miles from the urban core immediately flipped their shit and warned all their employees what was going to go down.
As the protest started to get organized on the city/county line they were met by a few officers of the county police who told the organizers that they were free to begin the march up the highway. But that the county would not escort them, so they were on their own as far traffic went and "other" issues related to their safety. Absolutely no black people had shown up for this march incidentally. And everyone knew why. Including the protest organizers who instead decided to march back downtown to screech.
I wonder what those "other" concerns for the protestors safety were.
Yes, parts of the left/liberals will continue their ceaseless assault on 2A rights, but after these riots they are going to have a much harder time getting normalfags to listen to them.
The day San Francisco encourages gun stores in the city is the day Liberals have given up. Before this whole chinese virus and nigger chimpout, there was a gook councilmen trying to get rid of a Big 5 store in Oakland because its the only store left that not only sells guns but has them on open display. I believe he was triggered more by the display of the guns than the guns itself.
I am amazed by leftist minorities who despite documented racial discrimination doesn't all come from whites but also other races, they will still act like we all in a kumbaya moment.
