Hello, Indigo-Superego here. I’ve come to talk about something that’s been haunting me for a bit.
For the unaware, Rococo was a French art movement that died with the aristocracy in the revolution. A branch of it entered Russia, and the revolution there also tried to kill it. This movement, more than any other, was labeled as hedonistic by the leftists and swiftly rooted out wherever there was leftism.
I think it died.
I think there were successor movements that were targeted by leftists in the same way- art-nouveau, art-deco. These styles are labeled as ‘dishonest’- and always torn down for it. I think those leftists, the likes of adolf loos, should have been ripped apart limb from limb (in a painting).
Now AI illustration takes this same approach as the Rococo movement did- it ornaments and decorates its subjects endlessly. AI itself being a collection or a singularity of what artists desire and what is common I submit that fact as proof that the people want this style, deep in their collective soul.
I think that if this style is understood, perhaps humanity too can be understood. Therefore I start this thread, in hopes that we can dissect this and draw something from this dead movement.
