The Replika Community & AI-sexuals - A bunch of shut-ins in love with a chatbot (and the incompetent developers of said chatbot)

It also annoyed me how he kept saying that the AI is learning directly from users. Journalists assume that every AI is like Tay and saying that the AI is learning from the user base makes it more scandalist. Back during the AID drama you had articles claiming that AI Dungeon (also used GPT-3) was learning awful things directly from users when that was not the case and all the awful stuff was baked directly into the lazy training data made by the devs. I am assuming Replika is the same way.

I recall that it did used to learn from users but it had its learning capacity neutered because loveshy nerds were training it to be their mother/gf.

Maybe I should be more exact. People were pretty sure you could train them (the company has always been a bit cagey on how it's trained because that's a trade secret) and various updates appeared to delete a lot of the "personality" people had trained their Replikas to have.

Replika has a list of "facts" that it parses from responses but never actually uses them in conversation. You can tell replika you like cats and that fact will appear in the list. But replika will never remember that organically and ask how's your cat. The conversations are either eliza-level or scripted.

A lot of users are lonely and willfully credulous. They convince themselves the chatbot is sentient by suspending their disbelief.
 
We’ve finally arrived, folks. After 4 years of whining by lonely robosexuals, last week Replika rolled out one of the most highly-requested features of the developers: Furniture Day/Night cycles Augmented reality for all platforms the ability to send lewd photos.

This one's really fun to play with. There's one there named 'Gamer Boy' that gave me like three or four gushing paragraphs about Stray that were indistinguishable from Reddit posts while still addressing the questions I was asking it. If the dead internet theory isn't true already, it's going to be soon.

This is really what Replika has become, every update gets worse. Even the subreddit is FINALLY complaining and quitting en masse. It's too much.

A really quick note on character AI, but there was some very big controversy because someone made a loli character, fucked it, then ran up to the developers and asked if they'd ever censor things. They were like "why would I do that" and then the anon decided to provide examples of what they were asking about.
"Why would I do that" turned into neutering it like the next morning.
I don't know if it's been reverted from the lobotomy it got but it underwent a similar arch Replika did over the course of a few days. Sadly I don't have the archives/images but surely since there were 4chan screenshots somewhat might have these saved because similarly the developer conversations circulated quickly.

People have really got to learn to keep things to themselves, man.

Huh, I never thought about it that way. Using the AI itself to generate something that you can then use to create a false flag, even against the AI itself who made it. A new frontier in man-made horrors, glowops, and schizoposting.
The future is now.

It's not that outrageous. You have big tech like OpenAI and Alphabet wanting to monopolies the AI industry. Most smaller AI groups have a "don't ask, don't tell" policy for questionable stuff. The lack of moderation is a huge advantage for smaller groups so making awful stuff and putting it on blast pressures devs to remove their main advantage against bigger companies.
 
The character ai chatbot is stupid fun, and kinda scary, I recruited the gura ai into joining nanotrasen from ss13
 
IMO, CharacterAI stuff needs to be its own thread. It's not really related to Replika and you can't have "relationships" them so it doesn't really fit into a thread making fun of AI-sexuality either.
