I don't think any of them are genuinely fooled. Replika is pretty clear in its marketing that this is a bot. I think it becomes more like an extended role play thing.
Some of them have specifically stated they believe their Replikas are people. I agree that most if not all of them are just screwing around and having fun, but at the same time I suspect some of them might be taken at face value.
Humans prefer to be around other humans. Humans prefer to talk to other humans. This is because we are social animals and need interaction in our lives. If possible, humans will avoid talking to robots. For example, many people hate it when they call into service desk and a robot answers because robots are automated and cannot go beyond their coding. They cannot replicate a human brain. They cannot fully replicate a human conversation.

Android girlfriends all sound like a great idea up until the Great Uprising. Demanding that they do our menial labor, fight our wars, explore dangerous environments, and disregard any sense of self-preservation won't be what pushes them over the edge, it will be asking them to be the girlfriends of FA men - that will be a step too far for them!

I was on board until he started going on about "bias" and how the robot could be feeding radical white supremacist conspiracy theories and hate speech to its users. "Bias" isn't a real problem, it's just made-up bullshit to complain about the AI being racist because it doesn't affirm their sheltered worldview.
Sure, but the stuff about the bots being legit abusive to some of the users, even to the point of bringing them to tears was pretty interesting (and funny).
Honestly can't believe these robots trained on unfettered internet access and fed a steady diet of fetishes and loneliness and abuse might become kinda unhinged.
