The same thing's happened with jokes about North Korea being called racist because it being an asian country supersedes the fact that it's a human rights hellhole. I saw a lot of 'good it was racist trash' responses to the fiasco with The Interview

He's actually made jokes about other Indian-Americans, but he usually goes down the line of 'race traitors' and that they're goons for the White Establishment(TM). He made some tweets about Ajit Pai 'being the type of guy who likes Apu' and Bobby Jindal trying to wash off the brown on his skin in the shower. He is a pretty nasty scumbag.

What's great is the director sperging because his favorite cartoon characters don't agree with him. It is great though that the message the simpsons responded with was "this thing you find offensive is super old and kind of irrelevant now, lol calm down"

Y’know for people who constantly bang on about how oppressed they are for being non-white you’d have thought they’d be more concerned about education or employment or safety, as opposed to a lack of diversity in a popular TV show.

I assume it's because he's a guest and they're leads? And as we have seen before, they'll only change characters if it fits their continuity.

It's why everyone else looks the same despite the show's confusing timeline.

I still think that the problem is with society, not the show. The Simpsons was supposed to be a satire cartoon show. Satire means politically incorrect. You laugh although you know you normally shouldn't. As it misrepresents anyone with the same level of awkwardness, normally, the Apu issue should not be a thing. If it is, there's something really wrong with what's going on in real life and I don't think it will become better by renouncing on the satirical representation as long as the latter is not downright offensive (watermelons, etc.). I can't stop thinking that the show started in a time where viewers could differ better between satire and slurs. Unfortunately, the time in which we live now has broken that border. Slurs come disguised as satire and vice-versa. It's sad because that would mean, in final consequence, the end of satire, as everyone will end up feeling hurt by it, and rightfully so when satire is used as a disguise for racism again and again. That, though, was never the tone of this show or of many others that live in the the careless spirit of the 90's.
