Yeah, it was really a shame when he died and probably one of the biggest turning points in the decline. Even more so since the guy who basically had to fill in as the "Auxiliary Fourth Male Actor", Karl Weidergott never got any major reoccurring roles outside of Bill Clinton. Hell, I'm convinced half the time he only got credited because it was in his contract and never used him on the episode. Even his successor, Chris Edgerly, got more respect, lines and characters in comparison. Doesn't help that unlike Chris or Phil, Karl's voice is easy to confuse with the main actors half the time.

Granted, I still feel the show would have gone downhill regardless of whether Hartman lived or not, but it would have been a bit of a slower burn if he had.

Hutz is just so chipper and cheerful. The guy will bounce into court 100% confident he's gonna win the case no matter how unprepared he is and only halfway through realize how screwed he is. Even when going up against a judge who he kinda ran over his dog repeatedly ran over his son, Hutz still puts up his best efforts certain hes going to win, even putting off preparing for the case against him by the National Council of Churches. Gill is just a sad pathetic loser who works better as a desperate salesman than a lawyer.
 
Since we're on the subject of Phil Hartman, I might as well post clips of his characters' final speaking appearances (albeit, not necessarily the last pieces of dialogue these characters spoke)

Lionel Hutz in "Realty Bits" (December 7, 1997):

Troy McClure in "Bart the Mother" (September 27, 1998):
 
The thing that made Lionel Hutz so great was that he was witty.

Notice how much snappier the writing is whenever they gave Hutz a line of dialogue. We all know he's a shitty lawyer, but I think what makes it work is his quick wit covering his unsubtle dirtiness. He's well-spoken, but a klutz. It's a really interesting dynamic that I think really works within the show.
 
I don't know if they already passed this particular line but (sorry for the poor quality but it was the only video i found of it) but Zombie Simpsons did it
Yeah they have Skinner say Son of a Bitch, did they ever have a character outright swear?

They have had characters say damn and crap. And I think Homer got away with saying Penis once. I don't know if they actually said bitch on the show before this though.

Only other one I can remember off top of my head is Marge in that second RC Couch Gag, but even then I doubt the could get Julie to swear and just had her say something else and bleep it out.

Speaking of U2, I doubt then Homer will go to another U2 concert again.

So, from what I'm reading from this chart, the majority of episodes between Seasons 1-9 were largely "green", save for the scattered "yellow" episodes and the two "red" episodes in Seasons 6 and 9. And then starting with Season 10, there came to be more "yellow" episodes than "green" episodes, with "red" episodes becoming increasingly common after that season. Eventually, "red" episodes become the majority for later seasons, with few "yellow" episodes and some of them being lucky to even have a "green" episode at all. That's seem accurate.

My first thought went to "bastard" as Bart says it many times when they go to visit unky Herb for the first time. Looks they used it occasionally, along with wanker, and piss
