IIRC, the Clinton Presidency was the glory days of the show.

Honestly, I think the Simpsons in those days were never that political outside of a few episodes; to the degree that it was radical, it was in a social and cultural sense. Zombie Simpsons strikes as the opposite.

It's true. When they lampoon Bush Sr or Clinton, they usually mock their personal foibles. Even with that Bush Sr episode, the writers said "this isn't a political attack, it's a personal one".

Hell, they were even fairly easy on Dubya by comparison.

Aside from Bart Mangled Banner (which I actually kinda liked, tbh) and the "This is going to be a lot like Iraq" line, there weren't too many egregious swipes at George W. Bush despite jokes about him being the norm in the 2000's

Most of the swipes at the GOP during the Bush years were gags about Fox News and general neocon antics.

I was remembering the episode, A Streetcar named Marge, and one thought "who would write a play about an assault"? Then a quick wiki search on the original author who did "A Streetcar Named Desire" and seeing the phrase "gay social circle", it made sense.

I'll admit it, I think that bootleg Bart T-Shirts are one of the more interesting elements of 1990's pop culture ephemera.
