This was legit one of the very first videos I saw on YouTube nearly 10 years ago.

I'm such an oldfag there wasn't even YouTube when I saw my first AMV. I think it was this bad boy:

Can't believe that video quality looked good to me back then...

Speaking of lolcows:

I saw this one back in 2002, and it made me laugh. I had no idea what was going on, and after seeing Excel Saga, it didn’t really matter.

There was this one AMV I found years ago. It was a DBZ AMV (ofc) with the abridged version of Ballad of the Blue Cyclone from Ray Stevens. Vegeta was the narrator, and Goku was the Blue Cyclone. As far as AMVs go, it was pretty well-edited, with an actual attempt to lip-synch the song with the characters.

Unfortunately, it seems to have disappeared since I can't find it anymore.

Do Matthew Sweet music videos count as AMV's?

Matthew Sweet got Space Adventure Cobra and Urusei Yatsura visuals played on MTV and Much Music way back in 1991 and 1992 via his "Girlfriend" and "I've Been Waiting" videos respectively, and this was an era when North American anime fandom was in its infancy.

In their own way, these music videos were nearly as monumental as Akira to North American anime fandom because they actually got played on mainstream television.

Not counting the Matthew Sweet music videos, this AMV of Kiki's Delivery Service clips set to the Police's "Every Little Thing She Does is Magic" that seems to be from 1994 was one of the earliest AMV's I ever saw, back in my VHS fansub anime club days.

I also remember another one that was set to a 1980s CanCon song, One to One's "(Caught an) Angel in my Pocket" that used clips from some magical girlfriend-type anime, possibly the Oh My Goddess! OVAs, but that one doesn't seem to be anywhere online and it's not even listed in the AMV database.
