This series is fucking awesome. As an Oklahoman but someone that has no dog as I was a Celtics fan long before the Sonics moved here because the Starbucks owner lied to Seattle (:story:), but this is great basketball. Wemby is insane, game 1 is one of the best games I've watched in a longtime, I love that he has that MJ/Kobe "fuck you" mindset and wants to dominate niggas. I like that OKC is showing some urgency so far through the first quarter, if they wanna win they gotta get physical with Wemby and rough him up like the Twolves did. That charge Chet got at the end of the quarter was nice, would love to see OKC do more shit like that.

Hartenstein was clearly instructed "beat the living fuck out of Wemby and Castle don't worry the refs aren't gonna call shit lmao"

That poster from Castle was pretty fucking gratifying, and of course Hartenstein was openly grabbing his jersey in the replay.

Hartenstein won't get away with that shit again this series, the NBA will have had a word with the refs about it. Time for OKC to think of another strategy. That being said, Stephon Castle is a turnover machine, I think if Fox wasn't injured Spurs would be up 2-0.

All-Defense awards are out. Wemby was unanaimous for 1st team, just as for DPOY.

Derrick White over Scottie Barnes for 1st team doesn't seem right to me. Besides that, I think things are arguable. I could see a case for OG 1st team, and I could also see feeling that Amen Thompson, Evan Mobley, Stephon Castle, or some other OKC defender got snubbed, but those aren't such glaring flaws imo.

Spurs just dogwalked OKC tonight
82-103 final score, we really are back in the 2000s. Really nice of OKC to not score 83 so as to not disrespect Bam Adebayo.

In other news, All-NBA is also out.

Personally, not a fan of Scottie Barnes being left off entirely, or of KD making 2nd team. Duren looks bad in hindsight but I think 3rd team is reasonable based off the regular season, especially if the vote was placed before it was clear that Cade would be eligible. Also I wonder what's up with the singular person who didn't vote Wemby for 1st team.

Have we reached peak analytics brainrot? Yeah we're down 3-0 in the series but muh analytics! The math checks out! If I owned the Cavs I'd be firing Atkinson immediately lol, he sounds like an absolute retard here

I came here to post this lmao

We used to be a results based society but we've reached record low levels of cope in "the data shows we're actually winning" as a team gets their shit pushed in. There's a stat in soccer called XG that I can't stand when it's brought up because it's the same as here, it's just a weaselly way to say "we deserved to, and should have won" instead of just fucking winning.

Have we reached peak analytics brainrot?
Yeah if Atkinson is saying it. Rather than weird autistic Redditors talking about Harden's +/- CUMBUCKETS or whatever.

Cavs don't really know what to do on offense, Harden will signal something and nobody moves. He's checked out on defense and you can tell that by his stance and where his eyes are at when he's guarding the perimeter. Mobley's not a lob threat, really, and Mitchell isn't good enough to carry the team on his back.

The roster is talented enough to win, it's just a huge coaching issue when they look like they're all playing together for the first time.

I don't know why anyone is surprised the Cavs are sinking. Harden is one of the greatest playoff losers of all time. He plays considerably worse in the playoffs literally every year. Allen and Mobley are inconsistent and seem mentally weak. Mitchell takes over on offense but he is not a Jordan/Kobe/LeBron type who can carry a team to victory. Kenny Atkinson is just another coach who doesn't have the balls to actually tell his players what to do.

The cavs may be down 25 atm but analytically they're up 7. Enjoy NBA finals prison, stalker Knicks child

I think the most charitable view of that Atkinson statement is that what he meant was more along the lines of what JJ Reddick said some time ago about how their team was generating good shots and the shots just weren't going in, so they're going to need to work on the actual shotmaking. Big difference there is still that he's taking accountability for a shortcoming and the analytics are being used more to identify what the problem is rather than being all "well this is supposed to make us win so I dunno." Atkinson doesn't want to throw his players or himself under the bus, but come on.

I believe this is the first time LeBron has not been all-NBA since his rookie year. I am genuinely surprised he didn't get a vote, knowing the NBA media.
He was ineligible for postseason awards due to the amount of missed games this year. It sucks but there wasn't anything more that can be done. If he had achieved the 65-minimum threshold he probably would have been given it despite a relatively mild performance from him this year.

I think he did better in the playoffs than the regular season anyways, even if he hit the games played he probably shouldn't have made third team when you don't factor the playoff run in.
