I have to say, if I had to use Discord that shit would be locked in its own VM and never have access to anything else. Probably a direct tunnel to either my guest network or a dedicated VPN account.

I find this to be a funny bit of paradox. It's more and more Windows that's becoming the enthusiast OS while Linux becomes normie central.

No. I was playing OG Crysis (not the remake) via GOG. I used Lutris to set up Wine and played the entire game in 4k.
I had C&C Generals (a game from 2002) running through Wine with the current community update mods.
There are plenty of older games than that I can play either through Wine, PCme or DOSBox.

Indie games often run without issue. Anything Unity will run without issue.

I love some old ass games and by and large most of them "Just werk" in the dirty word of proton, and when I use Heroic and lutris with just wine.
That or faugus launcher when all others fail rarely.

I was playing a few of the ultima games without too much of a hitch a few months back, reminded myself "Wait I hated this game" with dungeon siege 2 and finished disco elysium a second time on my install.

And the ones that don't work at all outright I have to do the same or less amount of fucking around to make them work as I would on windows.

Ironically I have less graphical and audio discrepancies than I ever did on windows because some graphical or sound options and features/settings on older games straight up won't work on newer hardware or OS versions because some niche element or key component has been long phased out or altered over time and breaks the functionality.

Whereas wine and or proton trickery that is above my paygrade to understand has a strong chance to make it work.

I maintain a git repo with someone else's software, just random patches for an old workhorse so it'll build on recent machines. Some rando sent me a bug report recently with a build error that made it clear there was a misconfiguration on his system. I pointed that out, asked for his distro, and his response was, basically: "I use Arch, BTW, so I couldn't possibly be doing anything wrong, it's your package." Deleted with prejudice. Why are Archfags like this. Wouldn't even occur to the dumb nigger that if I can't reproduce his issue, I'm not interested. Just posts smugly like I owe him anything.
