I love the book series. Wasn't totally historically accurate but enough to be engaging. I bet diversity bullshit was probably the trade off for getting season 5 made.

It's actually a black priest, which is slightly less silly but still jarring.
I love the show overall as an adaptation of the books, though it does require a little extra suspension of disbelief as it goes on, because they hit a point around season 4 where no amount of old age makeup can hide how these are all actors in their 20's-mid 30's pretending to be characters in their late 40''s-50's.
Excited for the movie showing Aethelstan forming England and forcing Uhtred to marry a good Christian girl that he hates.

Just finished Warlord this morning and I am kinda sad. The series has been with me for a few years now.
Does anyone have a book / audiobook series to recommended?
Not Eagles of Rome please, I already finished The Honour of Rome.
Oh yeah and on topic the show is pretty good too, didn't like S4 Brida too much though. I'm not quite sure but the books handled her better.

Yeah, if you complain about us performing cultural/historical erasure then you're the bad guy.
Anyway, I dunno, the last season kind of sucked. I haven't finished it yet, about halfway, but when a certain child falls off a rooftop I could not stop laughing because of how badly it was shot. Kind of lost interest after that.

Resurrecting the topic to say that they fucked up by making Aethelstan a homosexual. While Bernard Cornwell "implies" this in the books, it's never confirmed. I believe Aethelstan took his Bible very seriously, and saw the fact of him being a bastard (and the warning of Deuteronomy 23:2) very seriously, even if I don't necessarily agree - but I think this is why he didn't have sons or daughters. And the movie was very short. They should have made it longer. The best season was the first, followed by the second, and I feel like the third was when it gave goodbye to many cast members that were "original". David Dawson, Tobias Santelmann, Harry McEntire (Alfred, Ragnar & Aethelwold respectively).
