That word (incel) is to gaslighting the issues caused by all the subversive policies post WW2 (feminism, immigration, covid and banking in general) by strawmanning you with the bottom of the barrel men. It's a systematic social shame that goes something like "If you are a loser, it's your fault and not the system" kind if an insult (women mostly use social shame to make you shut up and it's weaponized to the max). Why do you think shows like "Adolescence" was made (by a descendant of Freud and Bernays, (((Marc Randolph))))? To ingrain the idea that if you don't agree with the system at the age of 10, you are an "incel". It really lost its meaning from being a "janny tier obese man with no chin and bitches" to become "man who dislikes the current kike fever dream".
People definitely got more lonely. There are many reasons, but a lot gave up. Things became way more online, and a lot of people didn't want to date like that. Also just people being poor. It's hard to provide for a family doing Uber. Not very attractive.

I was never the one to take the state repressions seriously, but the hostility of the world and being too much alone with own thoughts had worn me down and made me lose all the remaining hope for good future I had left. I've seen too many people shit themselves before the threat and become miserable worms.
In the end, I am one of those who very likely confuse depression with maturity.

As a kid nothing scared me more than 9/11. We had the anthrax panic soon after. SARS was really scary as well especially as it occured in a city not too far away from me back then. We have always sort of lived in crisis. It will never be normal but you hope things get less bad even if they won't.

We've still hit mellowing periods in our lives where world events aren't as terrible, the economy gets a little better and good things happen for us in our personal lives.

Everything before covid was good at this point compare to now.The dead internet theory has never feel so real than ever.
I'm convinced 90% of the shit I see in the internet these days are just bots fucking each other.
2012 was the end of the good shit. Gamergate hit in 2014. It was all downhill from there. Still, it was certainly a time to grow up in.
For me its 2016 when Trump was elected. You can "feel" that shift happening in real time.Since then everything just slowly become more and more miserable.

This is the start of our very own crisis of the 3rd century. Rome survived it tho, will we?
In the end, I am one of those who very likely confuse depression with maturity.
Adulthood is when you realize you're not gonna "make it", that you don't get to be a rockstar or a billionaire or a famous actor, that at best you can keep the same middle class quality of life you were born into, something unimpressive yet increasingly hard to do as the world becomes nothing but billionaires at the top and a sprawling favela at the bottom.

Turns out the adults weren't being all lame and buzzkills over nothing...
I simply wish we never left the early 2010's.
Nah the suck already started by then. On average its been downhill since 2001, but while we bounced somewhat from that the slump after 2008 never stopped, a bunch of megacorps' stock going ballistic doesn't change the fact the real economy and quality of life for all except the 0.001% has gone down. And its not just economics, proto-SJW bullshit started right after 2008.

It didn't start in 2020, it started in 2008. Once the government told corpos that they are too big to fail, they substituted advancement and gains for political manoeuvring and removing competition.

This resulted in a zombie economy and increased decay in all institutions. COVID just increased the rate of decay, as the corporations were happy to close down the economy because they knew they'd get bailed out.

I picked the last 5 years because that is what I deemed the most insane. You are completely correct that the institutional rot was already there. But as you said, COVID accelerated it to the no return point.

I see it every day frankly. Everything is digital now. I remember when stores had massive DVD and Blu Ray selections, fuck I remember movie rental stores. You weren't always at the beckon call of the corpo overlords of what you were allowed to watch.

Now these things still exist. A lot of the old ways of doing things still do. You can still get a landline phone in your house and only use a flip phone. But it is inconvenient. Purposefully. The corpos realized before, but especially AFTER COVID, that your data, all of it, is valuable as fuck. It's how they sell you shit. It's why oddly convenient YouTube ads pop up on your phone after talking with a friend or one Google search.

If I had to sum it up, it is this scene from DS9:
The lack of convenience of simply putting a DVD in the player has made people give up everything for a faster service. It's insidious.

You could file pretty much everything under "selling our rights for the sake of convenience". Inaccessible physical media and the right to repair are both under that idea. Corpos being too big to fail are also done because the economic issues from a large reform are also inconvenient.

We are all stuck in a propped up eternal status quo that both the elites and majority want to stay forever in a convenient state. But as time goes on, the decay only worsens.

Eventually things will break. It can be either violently or just reduce the quality of life.

The biggest loss for me is the 'old internet', of forum subcultures before what we now call 'woke', and before called SJWism or identity politics.

Have a niche or nerdy interest and want to research the mechanics of <thing>? Your choices are Reddit (shithole), Discord (pozzed, unarchivable by design), or ChatGPT (hyperpersonalized and therefore inherently anti-social). All of which are institutionally captured by leftists and trannies and indians and therefore it is impossible to have level-headed, reasonable discussion.

On a forum, you're able to connect with like-minded people in a primarily open format that is archivable by design. Long after I stop posting, as long as Null pays the bills, Kiwifarms is forever. So what does the moneyed left do? Make it impossible to maintain a profit running a forum. Clamp down on digital purchases. Socially embrace/extend/extinguish with alternative social media (such as discord).

Old standby forums like bodybuilding.com, for all its lolcow-ness, are dying. My personal niche internet hobby forum is already dead. Kiwifarms is literally the internet's last stand against corporate take-over, and I can't even figure out how to pay Null for his service while protecting my privacy, because I'm retarded.

Everyone is online now, but nothing worthwhile is on the internet.

I don't really know how to cope with it other than blowing off steam like this. I wouldn't even know how to solve this if I tried. Making a new, self-hosted forum for my interests that is strictly enforced to be politically neutral? How would you even market that? I guess I come from a time when the internet was slow, and now everything is so much faster, and so much farther left.

The death of forums are something the younger generation won't get, because they never lived it. Every major site had a forum or message board. It's how it was. You were able to talk to people freely.

Then money got involved. It was always there. The dot com bubble happened for a reason. But inch by inch these areas to talk about shit either got corrupted, or died, because places like Reddit replaced them. Entire communities were wiped out. Friendships of people who had talked for years just gone.

Post covid accelerated their decline as the normies siloed off into only a few main platforms. Now everyone was online in the worst ways possible.

And it's hard to describe for the younger people, but, there was a time where you still had online shit, but you also did stuff. You hung out with friends, caught a movie, went to the library, and then came back to the Internet later. Now we got 5G phones and 10gb fiber internet. We are hooked in all the time.

landline phone
While this is unrelated to the topic at large, I don't get why people like landline so much. VoIP is way better in pretty much every way. That being said, I will wish that the 2G/3G networks were still up, they have better range than 4G/5G and they are compatible with a bunch of old phones that are fun to mess with.
Thread tax: I hate that everything is online and that everything is connected to jeetware apps now.

The last five years have been fucking insane.
It will only increase in intensity with each passing month. It is increasing in intensity. It can't be ignored anymore outside of the most steadfast sleepwalkers, even.

One can point to many "bad" things that have happened since covid took place, sure. I would suggest every major moment over these last 5 years have been snapping people out of their quiet defeated settling for a prescribed lifestyle. Jolting people back into living in a more conscious state. Things are and, I'd suggest, have been completely out of alignment for a very long time. We're getting to live through clown world being cleaned out and cleaned up for the last time.

The old must fall away, friends. Fear not.

KF is the only place where I can still see the old internet I once knew. You can still find that in some small youTube channel comment section but it’s dying fast due of bots. Before AI you could at least still tell which is which by their comment spam or how new the accounts were. Now it’s almost impossible to tell what is and what’s not.

Before covid, there were still memes and other things to distract yourself from all the bad stuff. Since then, there’s been lot less of that, while the misery only kept growing. It’s a gradual process, but it all feels like it happened in a whim.
Does anyone even remember anything that had a positive impact on the internet in the past five years? Because I sure don’t.
And this year is like all the bad moments of it rolled into a big montage.Calling the year 2025 living torture is an understatement.
Thankfully, we’re slowly getting back on track, but I’m worried we don’t have much time to fully heal the damage that’s been done over the years.

Same experience, elderly realizing it's time to cash out and young people realizing many places are dead ends. The only difference is the public vs. private schools situation since in the EU the problem is the opposite. Private ones are nigger infested and public ones are less infested.
This part, I don't understand.
All that pent up online rage from COVID has been used yelling about Ukraine and Israel- on both sides. Look at the talking points. It's just Covid continued, with the same terminally online people yelling at each other. It has been the most dehumanizing thing to witness as someone who considers themselves somewhat neutral on the issues. You have entire groups of online factions going from the COVID cult, to the war cults. It is maddening.
Ironically, Putin saved the West by invading Ukraine. We'd still be masked up and using mail-in ballots if it weren't for him. The government granted itself unlimited power because of covid and once he invaded, everyone masked off and the social stigma disappeared because they got Russia Derangement Syndrome instead.

The only good thing the coof lockdowns did was it forced schools to go online, and that meant parents began hearing the real crazy shit that was being taught to children. The schools got really mad about that.
There was also the benefit of televisits with doctors. A lot of docs in the states don't even charge copays for those visits and for routine follow ups they are a godsend, especially when the doctor is a specialist or some distance away.

What importance would be the current Ukrainian problem to euros, if covid did not happen? It could be similar as in 2014 when Russians took over Crimea - it was a thing back then, but the euro politicians weren't quite on that power trip yet.
