I can only speak about the Balkans but rideshare platforms arrived here about 10 years ago and they went from almost killing off the taxi industry in the first five years to only being used by clueless tourists who don't know any better in the last five years. It's because they started mass importing turd world trash to drive Uber, so anyone local avoids it like a plague. Taxi companies employ only licensed locals and they're barely more expensive than Uber now. Uber was extremely popular when it first arrived here because it was on average almost half the price of a taxi and there were a lot of people who loved doing Uber to supplement their income because the earnings were nice. After the brownification of Uber, the service is terrible, the earnings are terrible so no local wants to do it anymore and despite all that it's more expensive than ever to hire an Uber, you're lucky if it's like 10% cheaper than hailing a licensed taxi driver.

Uber in Taiwan isnt too bad. They are held to the same standards as normal taxi drivers and need a special taxi license and registration which helps filter people out. Plus because they are registered with the goverment they have all their info on a placard in the back of their seat so you can report them directly to the goverment if they are misbehaving instead of relying on Uber to handle it. Plus it is pretty much exclusively locals, haven't had any jeet drivers.

That isn't true in the US. No one outside of NYC uses taxis for anything besides airport rides, which were a huge hassle pre-Uber because they'd often decide not to show up when scheduled. In NYC, taxi drivers are all retarded third-worlders renting a car from the actual licensed driver. Their cabs are dirty, they are horrible drivers, they creep on passengers, they refuse to drive to locations where they can't get another ride, and they always try to extort you for more money by pretending that their card machine is broken. Uber was a massive improvement.

Uber declined when the average driver became a taxi driver and not a normal guy trying to make a few extra bucks.

The future of taxis is Waymo. They're better than the immigrant-mobiles in every way, especially safety.
