The distinction between those past events and the current situation, is that the migration was numerically overwhelming at the beginning, and the groups mixed within a relatively short time, whether peacefully or forcefully. The current situation is more of a slow demographic timebomb in comparison, and the cultural differences are even greater than the aforementioned examples. I think something akin to the segregated South could be a possible outcome, where whites mostly separated themselves from nonwhites physically and socially. If past history is evidence of future behavior, I simply don't see the majority of whites willingly mixing with nonwhites- some will, but many won't. Certainly not when those particular nonwhites are pajeets.

Wikipedia tells me it's actually a Sanskrit word meaning something along the lines of "native." I agree with @FILTH Tourist that it beats "South Asian" as a term for that ethnicity in general. Indians use the term "South Asian", often shortened to "Asian" in the UK and Canada, to put themselves in the same category as Chinese, Japanese, and Koreans, thinking people will like Indians better if they are associated with real Asians.

Nobody is buying it, because besides the geographical differences that others already mentioned, Indians do not look or act Asian.

Asian in the UK in particular is less a language game and more that India's the Asian country they've historically had the most contact with. If there was some migrant in the UK from the continent of Asia, it was probably someone from the subcontinent rather than someone from Korea, China, Japan, Vietnam, Laos, island nations, etc. They called what we in America would colloquially think of as Asians Orientals instead, and I think they still do. I think ascribing malice to that may be getting a little too lost in the sauce.
