Uh...no. Once you get outside of the cities and into the villages, the quality of living in China drops well below even the lowest living standards in Europe outside of some of the really shitty Eastern European/former Soviet countries. We're talking no running water or indoor plumbing, going to an outhouse to shit in a hole in the floor that goes straight into a hole dug in the ground. The whole "China lifted millions of people out of poverty" line is total bullshit and propaganda. All China did was change the definition of what constitutes poverty, not actually improve the lives of the impoverished. And those shiny cyberpunk cities themselves that you see on Instagram are likewise propaganda. China wants the world to think they are ultra-modern and leading the way, so the slap LEDs on buildings that are poorly built, in cities that have no drainage so they flood every year when the rainy season comes and it drowns hundreds, sometimes thousands of people. You go into any Chinese city outside of Beijing and Shanghai, life up a storm drain grate, and all you'll see is dirt. No actual drainage infrastructure. They built this big, expensive train station a few years back that was supposed to be world class and it fucking flooded. Most of their energy is from coal fired power plants and all their "green energy" is fake. Everything is propaganda to them because they're a Comminist nation. Most of their water is too polluted for any kind of human use. Not just drinking, but also washing. ANY kind of human use. That includes their ground water, from all the chemical dumping they've done.
