Hi. I didn't see this term mentioned in the thread, so I wanted to share this all with you. It's about Izzat. Some posts have mentioned 'saving face', which is Izzat, but I wanted to elaborate on it.

Izzat has no direct translation into English. We only have terms that can broach the same concept such as 'honour' or 'reputation' or 'face'. Izzat is so much more than that. It's a zero-sum game of collective honour shared by whole groups of people, all of whom take it very, very seriously. A system like this isn't just foreign to Enlightenment values, but I'd argue it's antithetical to...

Back in the "problematic" past, if you went to India you'd see names like "Singh" and "Kaur", or if you went to Japan you'd see names like "Yamada" or "Nakamura", and if you went to the USA you'd see names like "Smith" or "Taylor" then. But in Current Year, if you go to Japan you may see names like "Gayakwad" or "Biswas", or if you go to the USA you can see names like "Hrushikesh" or "Sukhdeep" now. Along with plenty of "Abdul", "Baghdadi", and "Mohamed" of course. The times they certainly are a-changing these days.

Saw a YouTube video of a guy throwing Chakrams and it made me realize how it might be the worst weapon ever devised.

It's worse than a knife in practically every way possible, you can't use it in close range, it takes more resources to create, throwing it only works if it's someone without any armor and everything lines up perfectly.

Guess for a group of people who eat using their hands, the idea of a knife is too complex compared to a big disc.
