The trailer physically hurts me, and I hate, hate that Illumination is so damn obnoxious about their advertising. So this is unfortunately going to make its money back, but I see it going the way of The Lorax in a few years' time.

God, why did Dr. Seuss film rights have to be taken away from Blue Sky? Horton Hears A Who had its problems, yes, but at least it looked like Dr. Seuss. Also, Blue Sky perfected the squash and stretch cartoony effect in 3-D animation, and if anything deserves that treatment and give you nostalgic feels for the Chuck Jones' cartoon (while updating it for the modern age), it'd be The Grinch.
Give them to fucking Dreamworks. They're of the same parent company as Illumination and can actually make a decent adaptation (such as Captain Underpants)

I'll take DreamWorks as well. I'd much rather they continue to try their own original properties, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to try their hand at a Seuss adaptation. Give them Green Eggs and Ham, silly as it sounds.

I hope not, I really don't want the Seuss Cinematic Universe to be a thing because with that setup it could be a thing.
I do. I wanna see Joey kill half the Seussiverse with the Infinity Ham

This seems less like the Grinch of yore who was described as a wretched and disgusting creature and more like the Grinch's less endearing nephew who does things that bother and annoy people slightly.

I think the Grinch works better as a short if you're gonna animate it again. We don't need Grinch backstory or anything, he's just a shitty little weirdo who lives in a cave on a mountain

What's with the Dr. House if he was gay voice?
It's Benedict Cumberbatch. If Illumination making this didn't put me off before, seeing Ben continuing to have work most certainly did it instead.

It's probably going to be shit considering it's Illumination and unlike their Lorax movie it won't even be able to spawn a abomination of a fandom straight out of the deepest depths of hell. So it's just going to be a bad movie everyone will soon forget about.
That's what you think. As soon this movie comes, there will be a swarm of Grinch fangirls to fuck up the internet again.
(God, I can't believe I just said "Grinch fangirls :c)

What bugs me most about this trailer is that it shows a brand of humor that inherently doesn't fit the Grinch. The original short was pretty light on comedy for the most part. The most we got would be the occasional slapstick involving Max, but on the whole it was pretty straightforward.

This new one seems to be trying to go for straight-up comedy, because God forbid we make a modern kids movie that isn't a comedy. And the humor doesn't even really feel like Seuss would do. It feels tacky and pretty generic. About the one joke I like is the one involving the pickle jar, and even then that's only because I like gross-out humor.

Also the remixed You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch is unbelievably bad.

I hate how this and the Jim Carey film both used crappy new versions of the song instead of sticking to the Thurl Ravenscroft version, which is an excellent version. Also something truly horrifying came to my mind today: What if this paves the way for them to remake Halloween is Grinch Night?

I don't know about that. The last time they tried that we got the awful The Grinch Grinches the Cat in the Hat

Oh come on. That one wasn't that bad.

This seems less like the Grinch of yore who was described as a wretched and disgusting creature and more like the Grinch's less endearing nephew who does things that bother and annoy people slightly.

That was kind of what he was in The Grinch Grinches the Cat in the Hat, though.

Who wants to bet that Illumination is seriously considering "Cat in The Hat starring Tom Hiddleston"?

The WB's animation division is doing all further Seuss projects from now on. It used to be Illumination was going to make a Cat in the Hat film, but now the WB is doing one. (Your idea will probably be what comes out in the end, though.)

I'd be more optimistic if this didn't seem like anything other than a blatant Christmas cash grab. It might just be me, but it seems like they're trying to turn the Grinch into a big dope instead of the classic grumpy asshole with bad luck.
