Ya I feel like Day's character was wasted in second movie, it started out with a nice twist but then fell apart towards the end.

I didn't actually get into the kaiju genre until a couple of years ago when I read the NES Godzilla creepypasta (that surprisingly, bar the ending, still holds up pretty damn well today), but I was happy I took the plunge because the genre reminds me an awful lot of the fighting robot sport (at least from a fighting standpoint) which is something I grew up on. I haven't seen all the movies yet but I have to say I'm fond of Godzilla vs Biollante and Gigan is an absolute treasure in any movie he's in. Definitely my favourite kaiju there!

My mom bought me a VHS set of Godzilla 1985 coupled with Godzilla Vs. Megalon when I was a kid. Absolutely loved (and still do) Godzilla 1985. When I was a kid, I couldn't figure out why those two movies were so markedly different. Now I absolutely love Megalon. Such a fun movie.

Heisei Godzilla is the best Godzilla. I had a lot of the toys that came out around the mid-90s. My parents still have them in boxes in the basement. I'm going to have to annoy my fiance and bring them to our house now.

I still watch the dubs. There's something endearing to their lack of quality. I love how they pronounce it as "Godziller." Wouldn't recommend that for Shin Godzilla tho. That movie is so fantastic. If Toho doesnt give us a sequel after their Legendary contract expires, they're making a huge mistake.

There was so much potential sequel set up in Shin that its ridiculous. You had the skin or whatever tissue it was that fell off of Godzilla into the city when they're looking at it in night and they mention that that was still mutating/capable of growing into another Godzilla. There's the point of the US army collecting a lot of that material to bring back to America to analyze and do whatever with. The idea of other Kaiju spawning directly from Godzilla like the unused idea where Shin separated into two separate Godzilla. This is probably more an easter egg but you have Rodans head on the fins on his back, so its not hard to imagine something like that. The entire DNA sequencing thing where they have 6-8 color coded structures with the primary colors of other Kaiju, and then the obvious one of GodzillaMen spawning from the tail.

They were really set up to go in any direction they could have wanted in that universe with how many openers there were. It didn't sound like there were any plans at all to continue it though from the execs, which is why we got the 3 anime movies. It was probably lightning in a bottle but it would still be great to see a follow up to it though.

Ehh, I don't really need a Shin sequel. Or him doing any vsing either. It was a good work in its own right but I think sequels would lessen the "shit keeps getting worse" pace.

Considering Kong was an inspiration for Ray Harryhausen's work, who in turn made Beast from 20,000 Fathoms which inspired Godzilla, and considering Kong has appeared in two Japanese films himself, and also considering that Kong is kind of the grand daddy of giant monsters, yeah, I'd say he counts, .

I just watched Shin again last night and honestly that's one of the best aspects of the whole film. I also don't think a sequel is needed, we haven't had a stand-alone movie since GMK and it was nice to have one in the line up again.

Edit: Final Wars is the most recent stand-alone.

I just re-watched the 90s Godzilla Vs King Ghidorah and I love it. it along with Biolante and Destroyah are my favorite of the 90s Godzilla movies. Final Wars is fantastic too and is mostly action (Godzilla even fights the American Zilla monster). The new American movies are okay better than the 1998 movie. I hope King Kong Vs Godzilla is great, I liked the 60s version

I've always thought Biollante was an underrated monster.

The Showa series is definitely the funnest out of them with all the goofy shit but the entire Heisei series will always be the best version of the Godzilla franchise to me. It just had some of the more engaging and emotional storylines.

I really like Shin a lot but I see it as more of a creepy what-if AU than a representation of the Big G's personality we've come to expect. It's still a great movie though.

In the Showa Series (1960s era), just the twins.

In most other versions, it is a bit more ambiguous as the twins are typically the only Mothra worshipers we see, but it is stated that they were once a thriving society and its assumed that they were all tiny fairies.

In the Anime Trilogy, the natives are believed to have evolved from Mothra somehow, but none of them are fairy sized. Even the anime's version of the twins are normal sized humanoids.

Yeah, I think this was shown to be the case in Mothra. Which is interesting that Mothra went from a bit of an anti-villain (?) in her own movie not giving a shit about destroying Japan just as long as her people are safe, to a full-fledged heroine who still ends up destroying buildings because she can't help it as a kaijuu, but she truly loves everyone/Earth and not just her worshipers.

Speaking of Mothra, I think it's hilarious that Giratina's cry in the anime is basically larva Mothra's cry. Actually, quite a few Legendary Pokémon in the movies use stock monster cries.

Anime as a whole has done it since most commonly you'll hear a muted Godzilla cry for giant monsters, it's quite jarring.

Mr. Nekro surprised me with buying the Rifftrax version of Gamera the Giant Monster. I hadn't seen them in years, and he'd never seen them. I love both early and the later Gamera films for different reasons. Forgot how much fun those movies could be. The riff was great btw for anyone that wants to check it out.

I just rewatched that recently. It was a childhood favorite of mine. Its basically a UK suitmation style monster movie, and it was on MST3K back in the day.
