I can stand "Public Radio" a lot more than regular radio these days. I suppose I've grown to accept those mellow tone far more than I should, but I just can't stand regular stations these days.

If only we had more of this...

EDIT: BTW, love the new forum layout, if only temporary, I feel right at home here!

I have a random question that may or may not be worthy of an entire thread to itself, so let's try it here first.

What is it about this site that appeals to smart people? Not necessarily counting myself in that, but since I've been here, I've seen users make very knowledgeable posts on a surprisingly wide range of topics. Politics, religion, history, technology, all that good stuff. Long ago I used to belong to another forum that was sometimes described as "smart people acting stupid" and this is the closest thing I've ever found to a replacement.

Why are smart people so interested in laughing at idiots on the internet?
 
Noticed someone uploaded this MTV clip from the time they had their "Free Your Mind" PSA campaign in '93, and something about the message made me think of what we're seeing today, what with the SJW backlash and all that. I guess someone wanted to warn us...

I like to be informed on abormal human behavior because of unresolved childhood issues. I can't ask several people why they did insane things on account of them being dead and all. So I learn through lolcows and sometimes use what I've learned in real life.
 
One of my personal lolcows continues to try and be a "crisis worker" from her shitty group home room. Now she's contemplating attending a conference far even though they only let her keep $30 a month. This is somebody who has a meltdown when they don't get three naps a day, thinks sex is "yukky" and plays with dolls. Seriously, people like this have been given degrees and really sick people might depend on them and will get let down or worse.

I've had psycho therapists. My last one was a troon whom I'm glad got fired.

I start to think the whole industry isn't any better than voodoo or astrology.
 
Had to get that call today from some firm representing my health insurance provider and had to schedule a sort of at-home check-up in a few weeks. I'm not looking forward to this and I'm sure the recent mess with the ACA being dismantled is bringing these sorts of things out.

EDIT: Strangely they didn't show up this week as I thought. I may be in the clear! I just hope whatever doctor I'm assigned doesn't phone up for an appointment. he wanted me to come in for some sleep experiment, thinking that may have something to do with my health, also therapy of sorts. I just don't want to go through with that.
