Seeing as there is a trailer now for the recent movie, I feel it would be interesting to talk about this film and by extension the series.

 
The first one was a waste of potential, and I instinctively cringe at any media that tries way too hard to be "FUCK DRUMPH", so the second one's my favorite out of all of these.
 
The Purge was always a great premise but the films always seemed to be lacking in execution. There's some great scenes sprinkled throughout the series. This one feels like it's a bit more of the same.
 
I don't get all the people saying "great idea, poor execution". The idea itself is completely fucking retarded, and utterly absurd on its head. Nobody in real life would EVER think the concept of a purge was a good idea. This isn't social commentary, and it isn't anywhere near as intelligent of an idea as it pretends to be.

And yeah it looks like this series has just devolved into "fuck Drumph".

I agree, it's basically what dumb people think the government will do in the future so only Conspiratards can think this is gripping social commentary.
 
I thought the movies were an enjoyable watch but the social commentary is pretty awful and dragged it a down a lot. I'll prob see it in theaters. I mean it has to be more interesting than Truth or Dare.
 
Seriously, all crime is legal for one night and everyone goes for murder? I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm happy enough with breaking into a Porsche dealer and driving off in a Panamera.

Good point. If you murder somebody and steal their shit, are you totally golden? I mean if somebody knocks over a jewelry store, can they steal all the stuff and be free and clear, or do they get arrested the next day when they try to pawn the stuff?
 
It's just such a dumb concept. Oh yeah, that dude across the street murdered my wife last night, but it was legal, so I'm just going to go about my business? How do you have an economy in this environment? Is insider trading allowed during the purge? Can wal-mart bomb costco?

Then somehow the rich go out and hunt the poor for fun? That's not what happens when lawlessness occurs. The poors go eat the rich for fun, then kill each other.
 
So...just finished watching it and...it was good at first, but then went super off the deep-end with nazis and white supremacists.
So The First Purge starts off with...nothing.

  • No one wants to kill, but most are getting drunk in public and doing drugs.
  • The main heroine gets caught in a trap and is sexually assaulted by a purger who literally grabs her by the pussy (and she mentions it as well). Hamfisted DRUMPF joke...yay!
  • The head politician (He's super white bread btw) sees this and isn't happy. He sends in some mercs to start bumping up those rookie numbers.
  • For no reason other than to push a political agenda for the movie, they dress up the mercs in KKK garb.
  • The main hero is a known drug dealer in the island, and suddenly knows gun-fu when fighting some of the mercs.
  • The mercs are Russian (because we need more hamfisted references).
  • Then comes the climax, where the mercs go room by room in an apartment killing everyone, led by a man in a suit, latex duster and gold armband on his left arm (Hello Nazis!). One merc gets choked out, his mask removed shows a blond hair blue eye white guy just to drive the point home.
  • It then culminates with our hero shooting C4, causing a MASSIVE fireball (C4 doesn't do this BTW).
  • It ends with many residents stumbling out to the street with the camera pulling out, but is instantly ruined by some kids playing basketball in the background, as if they hadn't gone through the most harrowing and traumatic night of their lives. Fuck this movie dove off a cliff SO FAST.
