Looking at the Hollywood Reporter article with the usual gangs of pro idiot critics (more like Marvel apologists) you just get the sense that they have no idea how to hype this movie. It's "something different."

It would have made far more sense to have this Eternals Director do the Black Widow movie since the director seems better equipped doing smaller scale stories focused on women. I guess the timing didn't work so instead we get two forgettable Marvel flicks. At this point I'm just wondering if Marvel will be able to keep James Gunn and Taika Watiti who are the remaiming directors who seem willing to work in their system and can pull off solid entertainment. I guess you also got Sam Raimi with Dr. Strange 2 but I'm sure given Sam's age if he'd want to do a whole slew of Superhero movies.

A reporter for Variety tweeted a major spoiler for the post-credits scene which since been deleted, but it was reported on here. (Archive)
Another line on his resume? Harry Styles has reportedly joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming film Eternals.

“Big reveal from #TheEternals premiere — Harry Styles has joined the MCU as Eros, brother of Thanos,” tweeted Variety reporter Matt Donnelly on Tuesday, October 19. According to Variety editor Marc Malkin, the “audience squealed” when the Grammy winner, 27, appeared on the screen.

While Styles fans were thrilled by the news, many were also upset by the fact that the reveal is also a major spoiler for Eternals, which doesn’t hit theaters until November 5. “Not trying to sound rude, but as a Marvel and 1D fan I wish that I could’ve been surprised when I watch it in theaters,” one Twitter user wrote in response to Donnelly’s original post. “Yes there have been rumors that he was in it but I would’ve liked to actually witness it myself then it get spoiled for me. Please don’t spoil things!!”

Other fans of the “Watermelon Sugar” singer’s music joked that they planned to start watching all previous Marvel movies now to get ready for the Eternals premiere next month. “Let me grab my laptop and get started on 29 movies real quick,” tweeted one Styles lover. “Watch me binge watch every movie and show in the mcu just so i can see harry w context,” added another.

The former One Direction member reportedly plays Eros, a.k.a. Starfox, whose brother Thanos (Josh Brolin) was the primary villain in the Avengers movies. Created in 1973, Eros is known for his ability to manipulate people to do his bidding — or to fall in love with him. Marvel has not yet confirmed Styles’ involvement in the film.

Eternals also stars Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Gemma Chan, Kumail Nanjiani, Kit Harington and Richard Madden. The movie is set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, following members of an alien race called the Eternals as they return to Earth to protect humans from the evil Deviants.

Though the movie will mark Styles’ first foray into the realm of superhero films, he already has some other acting roles on the docket. He’s set to star in My Policeman, due out next year, as well as the thriller Don’t Worry Darling, directed by his girlfriend, Olivia Wilde.

The Dunkirk star and the Drinking Buddies actress, 37, went public with their romance in January after meeting on the set of the movie, which also stars Florence Pugh. They’ve kept their relationship relatively private since then, but the O.C. alum has been spotted at a handful of her beau’s Love on Tour concerts.

“Olivia was nonstop dancing on the floor at Harry’s show at Madison Square Garden,” an eyewitness exclusively told Us Weekly earlier this month, referring to the “Golden” singer’s Saturday, October 16, concert. “She did a choreographed dance with her friends at one point.”

So the leak was true. This confirms that the movie is going to be super boring.

Also the most shocking thing about this article is that Harry Styles is dating Olivia Wilde?? Thought he was gay.

I'm going to be entirely honest when I say this: Who is literally asking for movies like these?

From the movies I've seen from her she just comes across as an ill fit for a capeshit movie, maybe could do something more like Logan but with less action. Not to say she is a bad filmmaker just don't see the sensibilities for a blockbuster movie in her.

But Marvel could really hire anyone and most of these movies would turn out around the same quality-wise, they are just factory products for the most part. Even James Gunn who seemingly has more freedom with Marvel movies than most even say he was got way more notes on the GotG movies than he did with DC/WB when making The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker. I mean for TSS James Gunn one demand was to shoot it near his dad who was dying and WB said yes despite the fact it would add millions to the budget compared to shooting the UK as they wanted, I don't see Disney doing that.

But James Gunn is likely gone after GotG Vol 3, he seems like he was happy with DC/WB and has said he has plans for more DC projects, so unless they give him a bigger paycheck or more freedom I don't think he will be making another Marvel movie for a while.

Taika Waititi I can see sticking with Marvel or at least within Disney, his rule is to make one studio movie and one smaller movie for himself. The logic is it making it easier to make the smaller personal movies by doing this. However, seems his next blockbuster could be Flash Gordon for Disney/20th Century rather than a Thor 5 or something else Marvel.

I saw a news blurb about this premiering?

I don't watch TV, but holy shit I haven't seen ANY advertising about Eternals to the point that I forgot about it entirely. I haven't seen billboard ads, print ad's, online ads...

Is it just the fact I don't watch TV?

I've seen some ads online but thats about it.

I dont think theyre being cheap with advertising on this one, its probably just the word of mouth that hasnt caught on. I have seen literaly 0 hype for this movie anywhere. None of the ppl I watch on YT are talking about it and none of the ppl I know are talking about it.

According to one blue checkmark, Angelina Jolie in the MCU is, and I quote, EVERYTHING. There's been a decent amount of praise from places like Collider, but Marvel could release 120 minutes of Kevin Feige dropping a deuce on a sheet of newspaper, and they'd rave about how groundbreaking it was, and how that one kernel of corn that appeared around the 75 minute mark was EVERYTHING. Surprisingly, I've seen a decent amount of blue checkmarks who would normally be jacking off over "muh representation," and "muh first gay MCU kiss," and "muh diverse cast," actually saying that while the movie is visually impressive, it's a convoluted mess. If that verified plot leak is anything to go by, it sounds like they're right. One guy even compared it to the OG cut of Justice League, that just shoved a bunch of characters at you all at once and then tried to make you care about all of them within the span of a couple hours, except in this case, it's like three hours, of the most generic looking superhero team of all time, with the most basic powers. Also, there's apparently like three sex scenes where an Asian chick gets railed by white dudes. Did Chloe Zhao mean anything by that, do you think?

I don't even understand why Marvel is trying so hard to make the Eternals work in entertainment media. This is their second attempt and I still don't see the appeal on something as basic as a conceptual level.

Did they do huge numbers in comic sales back in the day or something??? That's all I can think of because even the concept of the eternals is nonsensically boring on paper, let alone put into action.

I'm not surprised about Jolie. She was the only visually interesting thing in the trailer.

Is Zhao secretly b-b-based? She's anti-CCP and the Asian superheroine's power is the ability to get white dick. Too bad everything else looks like shit. I'd totally see it to own the libs otherwise.

lol no

The Eternals were largely Kirby's attempt to recreate the New Gods in Marvel but all of his best ideas were already used there. As a result, the Eternals were largely boring and never fit into anything. Every attempt to integrate them into the larger Marvel universe always fell flat but they kept trying because they are Kirby creations, that's about all they've got from a comics standpoint.

As for why they keep pushing them, that's due to how boring and generic they are. It's a group where you could, in theory, change everything about them and no one would give a shit because no one cared about the originals in the first place. However, you still have to put out something good to hook people and that doesn't appear to be the case with this film. I feel like if you wanted to actually take an honest stab at making The Eternals something in the MCU, you would have to establish them much earlier. The film still probably wouldn't have done too well but at least then you could have them be a more natural part of the universe and incorporate them into Thanos's story.

Angelina, Gemma, and Ma Dong-seok are honestly the only reasons to watch this film but good god the confirmation about Harry Styles kills it. Literally takes a big ol shit on what is already a messy plot

Salma Hayek has always been enjoyable.
