It's amazing how many problems with modern Bethesda started all the way back with Arena. People call Starfield "Daggerfall in space" but arguably it's more like Arena in Space, except somehow worse despite 30 years worth of new tech.

Either that or they've seen the trailers for that game that's trying really hard to be a Morrowind clone*, wondered what was so great about Morrowind, and hyperfixated on all the weird shit about Vivec being a hermaphrodite who fucked Molag Bal instead of the depth of the setting and mechanics.

*Best comment:
I thought this was just going to be the trailer for that other Morrowind-clone made by the former Bethesda workers. I don't know which one I like more, I think the marketing for this one was better than the that other one, but I'm getting a "lolxd so random" vibe from the video.

Morrowind isn't good because of the wizard who falls and dies in the beginning, it's good because of the story & aesthetics, and the fact that I feel like I'm gaining power every time it tells me to meditate on what I've learned.

The former bethesda-worker clone is an issue because I think it's UE5 and doesn't have a distinct aesthetic from the trailer, but this one seems to have an aesthetic but that aesthetic is shallow.

Exactly. Part of Morrowind's appeal is that it feels different from the typical fantasy aesthetic of knights in steel, dragons. vaguely European, ren-faire look. But also it reinforces the story. You are an outsider, a foreigner and so everything around you is strange and weird and at first glance seems crazy and nonsensical. But as you play the game, learn the terminology and slang, learn the reasons why things are the way they are, they become familiar and the imperial architecture starts to stick out. It's basically dark elf Laurence of Arabia

It's not Lel so randem xD. it's interesting, it borrows from real world cultures and is internally logical.

The mechanics can be super janky but I love the depth and range of options it gives you over Oblivion and even moreso Skyrim. The game also doesn’t even care if you perform some exploit to break the whole thing, which is almost charming to me.

Why aren't there more Elder Scrolls (Skyrim) clones out on the market?
Why would there be when the target audience will just forever play Skyrim with more and more mods for eternity? Don't worry, TES6 will definitely be just like Skyrim for obvious reasons, and we will see that the game is shit and it was lightning in the bottle more than anything else.

Speaking of Skyrim, I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on that one.

I'm up for some good old fashioned Bethesda bullying and Starfield just isn't doing it for me anymore.

Nah. They will outdo themselves once again, and make something even dumber than Skyrim.
Like, who the fuck needs skills or levels? That boring geeky thing with all those complex two-digit numbers. Normal people don't have time for that.
I mean they already kind of did with Starfield, just look how awful the leveling system is in that game. Made Fallout 4 look good, I imagine things will be even more dumbed down to the point where even the niggercattle will hate it. Happened with Starfield, that game has proven that Bethesda doesn't have a golden goose anymore, even Fallout 76 has some gunt guards but Starfield has nobody in it's corner. Doubtful even the TES name will be enough to save it since Skyrim exists, you can just play that again(or it's many mods/full blown overhauls).

I disagree with Skyrim being lighting in a bottle. Bethesda genuinely had something special about how they made games. You can list out all the reasons why Skyrim is a bad game: Shit questline "stories", uninteresting characters, brain-dead combat, fucking up of the lore, boring quest-design, uninteresting dungeons, harrowing of the RPG mechanics and yet there was a sense of soul that persisted though out their games. I don't know what it was but it made their games fun despite all of the objective flaws. I even think, as low as it got with Fallout 4, you could still feel the vestiges of it with Fallout 4. I think whatever they had is now gone with Starfield. It wasn't something once and then never again, they were able to consistently make fun games

(I'm not saying Fallout 4 was a good game, but compared to Starfield it might as well be the greatest game ever made)

I spared myself from any knowledge about this wonderful game.
I already shilled Patrician once, I will do so again. Watch his 8 hour video on it in the background when you have the time, it's quite literally everything you need to know about it since he 100% the game(that means he played it thru 26 times to get all the artifacts, and it's exactly as tedious and awful as it sounds).
It's like Todd and co took every single worst aspect from TES and Fallout, used progressive generation of levels and content in the worst way possible(EVEN THO THEY DID IT CORRECTLY 30 YEARS AGO WITH ARENA AND DAGGERFALL) and then forced you to play it 20+ times to "finish it" properly. Oh, and made everyone an immortal fat, dysgenic, homosexual mutt of some kind, there is no good looking characters in this game(and modders tried, they failed).

Looks like there is no need to watch an 8-hour long video. You've summed up Starfield quite well. It's shit.

I just don't give a damn now, really. They were dumbing down their games since forever. Fuck em.

I am the target audience and I want a new take on the formula. You didn't answer my question at all.

Oh trust me, there is a lot more than that. Just like with a circus freak, describing him simply doesn't cover it, you need to see it for yourself. The watch time is long but there is zero dead air, there is always some tangent or fuck up being covered for the entire duration of the video. Skyrim looks halfway competently designed in comparison, there is just nothing that went right, not even a little bit, with Starfield. This shit should be analyzed and taught in video game design classes, as a textbook example of how NOT to develop a game.

OpenMW practically feels like a complete remake at this point. Better graphics, better movement, better cameras, better AI. It's "modern" in a good way. Hell, there are even mods now that give NPCs schedules and let them use furniture, and if there's one thing that aggravated me about Morrowind it's how NPCs would stand around in the same place all day and night.

The closeted bisexual groomer lulzcow Razorfist got BTFO by rockstar games. The guy demanded Bethesda turn elder scrolls 6 into a fantasy red dead redemption 2. clone. Rockstar admitted they made a walking simulator that was a gameplay downgrade from the first game in every way.

It's not an insignificant amount of investment required to create, IIRC.

As much as I do and will continue to give Bethesda, and particularly that worthless, fat, schizo-Catholic faggot Emil, making a Bethesda-like but good is like making the Mythical Space Game. You can make a couple of the pillars okay, one great and the others trash, or pull a Star Citizen, spend a billion dollars, and get told 'next year' for 15 years and counting.
