On April 25, 2015, a massive earthquake hit the nation of Nepal. Over 5,000 people living in the stricken area were killed and over a million people are going hungry.

It was mentioned in another thread that the tragedy in Nepal has been ignored in favor of the strife in Baltimore. The site's userbase is largely American, and American news outlets tend to look inward. There is not as much to discuss -a natural disaster has no motives, and the consequences are the difficulty of recovery -and recovery will be difficult for the Nepalese.

Here's the coverage on National Public Radio.

If you have a little bit to give, here are some useful links for choosing a charity:

For Yanks

For Brits

Remember, as annoying as it is, the most useful thing you can give is money -Charitable organizations working in the area are able to assess what materials are needed, then purchase it. There should be requests for specific gently-used items, so keep posted for those.

This thread is a perfect example of what's going on in the news.
Idiocy gets coverage and actual events get nothing.

So far on Facebook I've heard nothing about helping the victims, nothing about the damage that occurred, but I have seen all these people getting mad that their Facebook friends didn't die in the earthquake. And then people are getting mad that people are getting mad that their friends didn't die. It's just this big ouroboros of autism and it's not doing anything to help.
