The Cloverfield Paradox (aka God Particle)

It was a good enough movie. Summary : Event horizon but with no hell

I don't understand why that movie got shitholed. I enjoyed enough to watch it a few times.

I have to say, if you see Cloverfield in the title and watch the whole thing and don’t like it, you’re fucking dumb. It caters to a specific niche. It took 30 minutes to really hit stride, but I really enjoyed it. I personally hope they continue this anthology series.

Cloverfield as a cinematic universe is brilliant, not because of the content itself but because Abrams found a way to market scripts for unrelated movies that weren't going anywhere and build hype for them right out of the gate.

I can't wait for Cloverfield Overlord now that they set up they can literally do anything in this universe and it connects.

Finally got around to watching it last night. It wasn’t good, but it wasn’t terrible either. I feel like they screwed up the connections in 10 Cloverfield Lane by not having the disaster that drove Goodman underground be Clover’s attack. That seems really obvious and involving aliens is just dumb if they’re going to bother plugging it into Cloverfield in the first place. My point being that my expectations for Paradox consisted entirely of not being bored and seeing the Clover monster at least once, and both of those expectations were met.

We know better than to expect the origins of the monster to be explained (because we learned them years before the second movie came out when they clearly hadn’t thought of any of the shit that followed) so whatever. The mysteries are completely artificial because we know they’re just making it up as they go along. My low expectations were met and I’ll likely watch the next one too. It’s movie junk food and I’m fine with it.

In an alternate reality where 10 Cloverfield Lane was about hiding from the monster attack and otherwise still as great a film as it was, and the third movie delivered what the trailer promised by being about seabed nectar and the characters on the oil rig that initially woke the thing up or whatever, it would probably be one of my favorite film series.

It’s like they set up all this lore years ago and told the first part of it from such a limited perspective that it seems so obvious that the way to proceed is to keep telling that same story before, after, and even during with a wider view, and for whatever reason they just aren’t willing to do that.
