Humans have 46 chromosomes, chimps have 48.
You can create human-chimp chimeras, but I don’t think breeding directly would work.

It's hard not to be interested the idea of human genome engineering. The potential for life improvement is massive, and the immoral acts necessary for it are carried out daily. If anything the chimpanzee child is more likely to have a father holding is hand when he dies at the old age of 13.
It will also be pretty funny if hybrids are popularized and we'll have actually scientifically proven superiority at some fields (at least once the scientists find out how to make the hybrids not die from cancer).

A monkey with human guts is still a monkey if it has a monkey brain. Cutting it up to save people who need a heart or kidney or liver is more noble than cutting up a pig so you can dine on pork.

Disease. Chimpanzees carry a whole bunch of endemic diseases that haven't yet hopped to infect us as well. A genetically engineered chimp will still likely be a carrier for those diseases, but it would then also present an opportunity for the diseases to adapt in ways that allow them to cross the species barrier. Transplanting infected organs will place even more pressure on those diseases to adapt to humans.

I'm no expert, but to get an organ transplant you need all kinds of genetic and biological bullshit to match up with the person the organ was taken from. If the Chong Ching Pong really think that you can grow that shit in pigs and apes and be fine transplanting it, I think some crafty jew scientists are pulling their leg for big budget bucks. Then again, the chinese are basically animals themselves so maybe it all works out in their case.

I am reminded of the Russian scientist who wanted to impregnate human women with gorillas and chimpanzees.
