Supposedly The Boys and Gen V are the top two most streamed things by total hours on Prime. Or at least from their original content. They are already making more Boys spinoffs because of it. Next one is set in Mexico. And they might be bringing back that horrible animated series as well. They are in full franchise mode. If you've read the spoilers for season four of The Boys they are doing the exact thing they did in the first three seasons, of killing off no one, and just resetting everything at the end of the season again.

Yeah, so was the Walking Dead's. Then the actual creatives who made it great left and the jews (literal and metaphorical) left behind did what they do best, blatantly reuse an utterly basterdized (and distinctly Jewish) formula that made Season 1 great. Completely missing the point that it was a set up for the next season(s) where that formula was supposed to evolve and get better (hopefully).

There is a reason they moved from critiquing and satirizing big corporations (the show is made by Amazon) and Hollywood (starring big hollywood actors) in Season 1 to completely pivoting away from that to attack anyone whose politics were to the right of Lenin at the expense of their characters and story. Getting to the point where nothing makes sense and the "bad guys" are the only ones the audience roots for. Because the people writing the good guys are objectively bad people who you don't hate enough, so the "bad guys" to bad people are just good people.

They definitely had to wait for Christopher Tolkien to be deader than dead to make rings of power.

I suspect the boys had got increasingly worse as Garth Ennis stopped giving a shit.

In a guess I would say that he found that TV showing his work is difficult with preacher.
I suspect he had to fight with the writers room and producers of that show a tremendous amount as it maintained some Garth Ennis preacher moments, but mostly it was akin to worst episodes of the Simpsons in terms of written by people who don’t quite get the source material.

I also strongly suspect he was annoyed at how little Cassidy’s backstory was really explored, but I digress.

It seems to me that Amazon has some good ideas, but lacks the talent to develop them, preferring to rely on established TV tropes in worlds which don’t fit them.

Spoiler: Spoilers Returning Characters

Nueman: Cuts Homelander off due to his high profile trial. Becomes alienated from her daughter who hates her powers. Works on a new disease to kill superheroes. Save Stan Edgar from death. Gets a laser blast to her face and barely survives. Gets acid thrown in her face by Hughie and barely lives. Her daughter kills people and nearly kills Kimiko. Her daughter becomes friends with Ryan Butcher. Is killed by another superhero and assassinated violently where she is cut in half (most speculate it is Butcher using his lasers).

Butcher: Uses Compound V which causes him to grow a tumor in his brain. He hallucinates an old army buddy because of this. Admits he cheated on Becca his wife and didn't love her. Alienates the rest of the Boys. Kills two characters. Tells Ryan he is a product of rape which drives him insane. End of season he is alone without anyone around him.

Homelander: Flashbacks to his childhood. Last scene of season is Homelander waking up Soldier Boy from sleep. Recruits tons of Superheroes into his super army. Gets mocked by Vought employees for needing CGI to cover his wrinkles. Tries to kill Hughie but A-Train saves Hughie at the last second. Unconfirmed but likely will kill A-Train. Goes to a Vought hospital and kills every single employee for fun. Homelander hates that his son is more popular.

Ryan: Stars in a Teen Vought show but hates it. Kills a stuntman out of rage on accident. Kills Grace Mallory out of rage by accident. Butcher tells him he is a product of rape. Kills his nurse and flees Butcher at the end of the season to be on his own. Can't stand his father.

Cameron Coleman (the Vought News fag): gets killed by a group of superheroes who think he is a spy when he is not one. Cate, Sam, Firecracker, and Teknight beat him to death.

Hughie: Has threesome with Tekknight and Ashley. Breaks up with Starlight. Gets engaged to another superhero in finale. Gets a superhero outfit. Battles Nueman and throws acid in her face. His mother begins talking to the media about him publicly. Talks to his father about his life. His mother gives him her wedding ring as a gift to give to his fiance.

Teknight: Has Epstein style sex orgies at his mansion. Has Hughie fart and shit into food like cake to become aroused during the orgies. Is killed by his butler.

Cate: Uses mind control on Frenchie. Attends Voughtcon. Appears with Sam in a few scenes.

Frenchie: Revealed to be homosexual. Has a boyfriend with is a major plot with tons of screentime apparently.

The Boys: None of them actually die this season outside of (unconfirmed) Kimko. Meaning another season of almost zero plot movement. Sam (the crazy puppet superhero from Gen V is rumored to have a scene with Kimiko so he likely kills or cripples her). But the leaks have said that every single member of The Boys survives this season and there is little plot movement.

Spoiler: Spoilers New Characters

Firecracker: Right wing podcaster parody. Has giant breasts and breastfeeds Homelander. Throws sparks from her hands. Did beauty pageants in the past with Starlight. Reveals the pregnancy of someone without their consent. Hosts a parody of conspiracy theory style shows and gossip shows. Becomes a member of the Seven.

Sister Sledge: Smartest person alive. Becomes member of Seven. Loyal to Homelander but chastises him. Becomes romantic with the Deep and Noir. Tries to help Ryan use his powers. Becomes CEO of Vought with blessing of Homelander.

Teknight's Crew: Teknight has a group of superhero sidekicks and a butler at his giant mansion. They help him run a bunch of businesses including for profit prisons. He keeps some of them as sex slaves in gimp outfits. His butler becomes fed up and kills him (like an Alfred in Batman parody).

Also the main lead of GEN-V died in real life from a motorcycle accident. So that show is being postponed indefinitely while they rewrite it.

A lot of what gets turned into franchises, or at least are attempted, are pretty thin gruels to try and make whole meals out of. Violent "deconstructive" superhero parodies tend to be, from my p.o.v., not much for a whole comic mini-series, much less a monthly series, or a TV adaption. Most of them make the same points hacks and uncreative people have been making for years, with deconstructions, especially if their parody of superheroes seems to be based on comics written years, or decades before. I've seen more than a few where you can tell the creator thought they were being clever and making some good shots against the sub-genre, but their idea of superhero comics they are clumsily parodying is stuck in half-remembered ideas of what they thought super comics from the big 90s comics boom, or the Silver Age were like. It's like watching something from a TV sketch comedy from the 80s or 90s where they're parodying soap operas and the writers only experience with soaps was apparently watching a couple of episodes of some black & white soap from the 50s that still used dramatic organ musical stingers and "-and what of John's love for Marsha? Tune in tomorrow for-" style narration.

The only silver lining between this and Preacher is that we get to see Garth Ennis suffer as his works are torn apart. It really is fitting.
