Not so much a birb as it is a BORB

Peachface lovebirds. Wild. There is a breeding flock of them around my area. Took awhile to attract them into my backyard, but I basically turned a dead tree into a giant parrot treat stick. They come in every day now, sometimes as many as 30+ at a time, squawking and fussing with each other. Absolutely beautiful birds! Having the flock around revealed that they're not all green with red faces. There are least two yellows and two blues and one grey. Also, some have grey faces. It's a real treat to watch them each day and listen to their constant harping with each other.

That is really cool, I have alot of rators around where I'm at, so smaller birbs are scarce.

We have a fair amount of raptors here, too. Mostly sparrow hawks and large red-tail hawks, but owls as well. They don't seem to bother the parrots, although I have witnessed the sparrow hawks take out a sparrow or two. I wish the red-tails would take out the damned pigeons! Here's a shot of our local red-tail leaving one of my palm trees. Also a beautiful bird, magnificent!

I captured this guy with my Nikon just as he turned and lept off a palm tree. A Gila woodpecker. Always enjoyed this shot.

I have a good video, but not sure I can post here without going through Utubes or something. Format issues. Maybe I can PM to you.

I considered setting up a Webcam that peeps could link into and watch real time. It's a hoot daily and I'm paying dearly for all the seeds and discs and seed logs I put out for them daily. I don't mind. It's only money and I could waste it a lot of other ways.

Dammit, I keep trying to get a picture of a pileated woodpecker around here, but they move too fast. I just take amateur photos for fun, but this one has remained elusive.

The Robins and Carolina Chickadees are out in full force, got some pics of them.

I find when an animal is wiggling I get better results just recording a video and going through frame-by-frame for a moment that's clear.

I saw wild Quakers in uptown Dallas a couple of years ago in triple digit weather. I just don't know how those green gentlemen adapt so well. They were eating dandelions.

They're actually illegal in my state for fear of them becoming invasive. I hear theres even a colony of them in NY.

Currently have my bird out with some dandelion greens as a snack. They're definitely healthy for birds (and pretty much everything)

What I love about them is that it feels like they're filling in an environmental niche that was vacated by the tragic extinction of the Carolina Parakeet.
