ravens: cool
ducks: cool, but very timid
geese: very cool, totally undeserving of their negative reputation
swans: absolute cunts, total swan death

goslings are also so fucking soft and warm goddamn i want to take them home with me so bad

edit:

AHHHH, i forgot to include this clip of the swan being a giant nigger to one of the babies

I just had a Flicker getting a drink from my improvised birdbath

Also baby bluebirds and robins being fed by parents. They’re as big as adults but all silly and speckled (haven’t been able to get shots because they’re easily spooked by any motion from my window.)

Any good online bird ID sites for Europe? I saw something yesterday and today in my garden I haven’t seen before. About large sparrow sized, with a black cap and black on the back, white breast, some grey around the wing. Definitely not a nuthatch, don’t think it was a warbler, deffo not a wagtail. I don’t think it was a blackcap either, it had like a little black cape. It looked like a chickadee but I don’t think we have them here. Any ideas? IMG_7324.jpeg
ETA- got it! Was a pied flycatcher. First one I’ve seen here, that’s now 32 species of birb I have had in my garden.

dude when I was a kid, my parents kept some geese, and hatched eggs, and I'd let those little goobers imprint on me. they'd follow me around, and nuzzle up against the back of my neck (I guess hair is close enough to feathers) whenever I'd sit on the couch with them. the flightless, farm breeds are so chunky too, and they're just adorable little balls of fluff.

I like to use Merlin Bird ID. They have an app that helps you identify birds from photos and sounds, and tells you what birds might be in your area.

Something I've been thinking about a lot lately is how cool it is that each part of the world has its own unique bird species. It makes me want to continue travelling to see as many unique native birds as I can.

I used to live in the US, now living in Australia, and it's cool getting to see how different the local species are! Australian birds are the best btw! :D
