Who's the worst beach boy, Mike love or Charles Manson?
Mike Love. At least Manson was kinda funny.
“Don‘t Walk, Put Your Head On My Shoulder” and “I’m Waiting For The Day” have been in my head for more than a few months and I haven’t listened to Pet Sounds in over a few years.

How is that possible?
That's how you know a band has great songwriting ability.

I love the Beach Boys. I've seen them live a few times, and I've always been amused by Mike Love's attempts to get his own songs over with the crowd. Once he sandwiched his lugubriously saccharine "Pisces Brothers," a song about the fact that he was friends with (i.e. met) George Harrison, between "God Only Knows" and "Good Vibrations," as if it would become a better song by association.

I wouldn't give Mike too much hate like he's an obnoxious douche by nature and a terrible songwriter. I can give him respect that he tried to keep the Beach Boys going after Brian went clinically insane, and Dennis left. After losing your main songwriter, producer, lyricist, and front man, nobody else tried to step up to the plate and keep the band going. Even though it was horrendously awful and he deserves hate because he's a douchebag, he didn't ruin The Beach Boys, The Beach Boys were ruined because Brian was mentally insane and had a terrible psychiatrist to help him.

Pet Sounds was such a very fun album to go through. I gotta give props to them. Even when their albums receive negative reviews, they always reign in domination. Something that other artists don't recover from very well. (ex. Pink Floyd, Styx, The Clash and the list goes on.)

Been really into "Love You" as of late. It's just Brian Wilson fucking around with synthesizers. It's incredibly dorky and weird but it's Brian Wilson so it has a natural charm to it. The song about Johnny Carson is probably the best example of how playful it is.

If you don't like this, then you won't like the record, and vice versa.

I thought it was a decent song, but yea, Rivers Cuomo isn't a schizo unlike Brian Wilson
I like it too, but i get why most don't. Honestly Pacific Daydream was unironically a REALLY catchy pop album.
He's schizo in a different way, I think. I mean, look :(

It's weird because I personally couldn't really get into Pacific Daydream when it came out, but it did grow on me overtime

same, at first I thought it was really unoriginal and badly mixed. But then I realized I was humming the songs ALL the time. And Rivers has always had a very pleasant voice. The demos are really good, too.

Thread tax: the other day I saw this Beach boys inspired weezer photo. I think it’s from a Spotify banner, apparently? At first I thought they were cosplaying “The boy in the stripped pajamas” :stress:

Guess I shouldn't be too surprised. I went to one of their shows when they were touring for the White Album and they snuck a photo of Bruce Jenner in drag into the montage for "Thank God for Girls." Not to say I really think Rivers is a real tranny, but it's disappointing to see him giving loft to this shit when I know he's got a wife and at least one daughter.

Anyways, rumors of a new reunion tour are making the rounds. Not sure how that's realistically going to work with Brian seemingly on the decline.

That’s horrifying (:_(
The photoshoot, from what I know, was done as publicity for Pink Triangle during Pinkerton era, but it never took off so the pictures are all that’s left. I don’t think he has crossdressed apart from that, so I highly doubt he is or will ever be a tranny of any sort, like you said.

He is, however, woke in that common quirky indie alternative “counterculture” (as if) way, though, so I’m not surprised he supports the whole deal. It IS sorta disappointing, but I’d be lying if said I had ever expected otherwise.

and oh, I knew about the tour rumors, but I hadn’t known about Brian, that’s really awful. :(

Slight consolation in that this was before trannygeddon and that at least some of the pit wasn't having it. There was some audible booing and heckling - more than I'd expect to hear these days at least.

Yeah, Melinda died in January, so his decline was pretty much inevitable. That documentary that came out just a couple years ago (edit: Long Promised Road) where some guy was driving him around Southern California to places he'd known when he was a youth showed him to be pretty far gone even by then. His wife was probably the last thing keeping him even a little tethered.
