A lot of the dissatisfaction that the Digital Circus got could have been resolved if it just focused on a single aspect from the very start, the pilot gave off the impression that this is going to be a horror-comedy experience with an ensemble cast being forced to deal with their unfortunate predicament, then it slowly, but surely shifted off into melodrama that's not really not that well-executed half of the time, a drama that could have been easily resolved if the cast learned to just talk their fucking feelings long before Pomni arrived, focusing into one particular character that many people just didn't like being given the attention and focus over the other characters they like that are objectively underdeveloped as a result.
I don't see how this is different from most media whose fandoms are largely online. Spectacle and aesthetics (or as I have heard it called, "hype moments and aura") trump virtually everything, including writing. Melodrama is like catnip to online autists.

As far as Gangle goes I assumed that was essentially her picking up from the stock standard backstory of having repressed your artistic ambitions to pursue a more realistic career path(the fast food episode fed into this notion) leaving her skills stunted and underdeveloped. Almost everyone, including people with serious potential, sucks when they're starting out. It takes time and practice to develop your skills to marketable levels(especially in a crowded market). Presumably real world gangle restarted her pursuit of artistry not too long after the brain scan.

Even in its heyday you only had a good comic every 50-60 comics, and even then it eas mainly the novelty of jokes for the average Computer Science Undergraduate and playing with scales/measurements before you realize it's the same fucking jokes. Nowadays it's words-words-words, climate change and political sperging (at least from my last look).

Eh, I think it had much broader appeal than that. XKCD just slotted in perfectly for the vast population of that kind of person who prints out a single Far Side comic to hang in their cubical to get more specific.
Redditors are why it's completely insufferable, though. Jax, kinger, ragatha, and gangle (but with the limbs stretched weirdly for the last one) could all work as skins, the first three are basically normal human proportions but you'd have to do invisible arms for kinger's rig which some skins already do.

If you haven't gotten the hint yet, Gooseworx barely gave a FUCK about the plot and worldbuilding, episode 7 was wasted on baiting lorefags, the entire setting is mere set dressing for Jax's (Cooper's) problems concerning his sexuality.
