I mean the most basic explanation is that when a character abstracts it corrupts the original brainscan file and is therefore completely unrecoverable.Now that SOMA is confirmed true, what's the logical reason for why Caine can't just undo abstraction? If the human members of the circus are functionally just NPCs with code copied off of brain scans, then it seems to me that logically Caine should just be able to reload someone who abstracted like an NPC.
Only having one copy of each person is retarded enough on it's own, but that's the only way it'd make sense.
