Let's place our bets on how much the kovox plush will be, $45?

So I was thinking about the finale while reading through this, and I just realized something about the animations during the credits.

During the beach one, you can see Caine and Kinger holding up the fish they caught. One of these is the Zach Hadel fish that's clearly dying while gasping for air. The credits then cut to the cooking scene, where you can see him dead on the counter next to Ragatha.

This only lasts for a few seconds, but what's the funny part? We saw more of the death scene for the Zach Hadel fish than the actual "death" / abstraction scene for Jax, the Goose-proclaimed second main character of the fucking show.

Here's another story that's better than TADC that tackles the concept of, even if they're happy in there for now what does an eternity of happiness actually mean?
This is instantly funny if you check the author's commentary about what inspired him to write it.

But sure, stagnancy is supposed to be a happy ending for a gaggle of characters who've spent a portion of their artificial existences trying to fight their way out of it.

I can't believe the real self insert was gangle the whole time
I think the twist is they are all self-inserts. As some others have alluded to, it's like a DiD battle Royale for Goosewerx. Jax, Caine, Gangle and Zooble are all obvious parts of Goosewerx; Jax is his masculine side he sought to escape and its perceived negative trappings, said Caine is also some negative, but also redeemable element (autism acceptance?), Gangle is the wanting to be a creator and yet stuck for a bit in the soul crushing McJob. Bubble is also some sort of avatar of mental illness, since he is literally voiced by GW.

Admittedly, I'm not sure where Ragatha and Pomni fit in... perhaps they are something of the woman he wants to be? Kinger I wouldn't be surprised is some sort of desired mentor/father figure to replace something missing growing up. Kinger in his clarity moments is a pretty stand up guy and guides the other characters in a warm and supportive way instead of a stern father figure or an absentee one... yet he does go absentee due to his weird debuff, but that's not his fault.
I always took the "circus" part of the game being the whole social aspect of the VR game they're all trapped in BUT NOW NOT TRAPPED IN BECAUSE BRAIN SCAN NPC DUPLICATES EVEN THOUGH THAT WAS NOT THE FUCKING PREMISE REEEEEEEE

Still yeah you know how like "family circus" isn't called family circus because of a literal circus? yeah it's like that but with circus/carnival theming to it.
I could see that, and just that Caine liked that theming for his place. I definitely thought of it as more toybox/ kid playing circus with their toys in design setting. I tried to explain that to a friend once who said he hates Circuses and Steampunk things (I have no idea where he got the idea that it's Steampunk.)

Admittedly, I'm not sure where Ragatha and Pomni fit in
she is tricky to figure out, but she is definitely also part of his psyque as she is basically a Raggedy Ann OC, which is his favorite, or one of his, favorite movies.

He might had projected unto her his family and mommy issues. But I don’t have enough info on him to know for sure.

My theory is that she does represent in part something external. He is trans so a lot of the validation he gets is double faced, specially from Toxic positive women.

They will validate him as a true and honest woman, but not really believe it. He has definitely caught on it, but doesn’t blame them completely. Ragatha is condemned for not being honest with her feelings, but not herself as a person.

I think you are unto something. She is Jax’s opposite. She is the one that represents femininity the most in his mind. Out of the 2 main women and whatever Zooble is, she is the one most traditionally feminine character.

Última edición:
Having finally bitten the bullet and sifted through the thread instead of watching the show, I feel vindicated in sticking with rewatching the old Retsupurae of I Have No Mouth, adding a laugh track over the elevator bit naturally.

it's pretty funny how much of an u-curve there is with the "trans jax" theory. both troons and transphobes consider it to be broadly true, but the vast majority of casual fans consider it to be nothing more than a massive reach / some coincidences. we really do share a special bond.

The author could have leaned into the parallel of Pomni being obsessed with finding an exit and the looming threat that the last person who did that, Kaufmo, abstracted (instead of her insanity over exit doors being waved away in a throwaway line). It would have been interesting to have her obsessively look for exists during each adventure. Instead of her passively standing around with her eyeballs hanging out in episode 3 while standing before the choice of 2 doors, have her get excited at even the prospect of doors. Have her rip apart the walls with her bare hands The Yellow Wallpaper style at one point. Keep a strong motivation or desire burning in her character. ANY strong desire! She wants out, she used to explore abandoned buildings, so have her regularly explore the circus. She could have experience finding hidden doors or cellars due to exploring so many old houses, then conjuring crazier and crazier backrooms by accident. All the other characters have given up finding an exit and just endure Caine's adventures, but not Pomni. She'll never give up. Give her more spunk. Let her drive the plot more. Let her MAKE things happen instead of reacting to things happening to her. Let her get more and more frustrated and desperate as time goes on. Tease her nearly abstracting a few times and pulled back to sanity by the other characters. Maybe even have her abstract in the end trying to save her friends. She was the main character, she could have been so interesting. Give an emotionally charged reason why she explores abandoned buildings. She was looking for something specific, something to do with her or her family... but what? That could have been teased. But she ended up flatter than she could have been in favor of spending more of the emotional energy on Jax and his tragic backstory.
Its a common pitfall for new or bad authors to use tropes like the everyman protagonist thinking that they're an easy key to relatability. The everyman can be an excellent choice for a protagonist, but even it needs some level of diegetic presence to make sense. An example I can think of immediately is Rand al'Thor from Wheel of Time, or more recently, Carl from Dungeon Crawler Carl. Both are everymen with a very generic personality provided by the context of the plot, and just like the idea surely was with Pomni, the reader is supposed to grow to like them through their shared exploration and experience of an unknown, uncertain world. The reason why those two succeed is #1 their respective stories are just better flat out, and #2 because despite being everymen, Rand and Carl both have traits that jive well with the plot. Like you said, drive, determination, some unanswered questions about their backstory or lives before the $CALL_TO_ADVENTURE. Pomni is left too blank, to where she feels like a set peice more than a character, much less a main character. She fits the bill of being the audiences' eyes, but due to both the poor pace and characterization of the show, she just kind of peters out and gets dragged along by the plot. All Nooseworx had to do was just beat-for-beat follow the most basic monomyth boilerplate and it would have turned out better than this. The show has no main character. That would be fine if any of them were interesting, or had an interesting conclusion or difficulty they had to push through. Instead, the only character that COULD have been called a "driving force'", Jax, gets permanetly dogcucked and his entire character ark is effectively resolved. I can't even call it a tragedy with a straight face. Jax's story isn't tragic, its frustrating. What's tragic is that you could even make a frustrating story good, but instead it is tranny head drilling dehumanization Dahmer LARP fetishism.

Call me retarded and autistic all you want, I'm high on hopium hoping that the last half of that leak was a fake out. Jax would definitely fall under the category of top tier character so instead we spend the entire god damn finale focused on his issues just for NOTHING to be resolved? I reject this ending. He lives and hes happy and he gets his frog bitch back the end

With how much of a fetish character Jax turned out to be, you ever wonder if after the series, Gangle and Zooble (Goose' OTHER creepy fetish self insert) make his tied up abstracted self watch them have horrifically rendered lesbian gmod sex?
I've noticed about 80% of media gets instantly better if I could punch the writer's GAY self insert in the back of the head.
I hated Lonesome Road, but the fact that you can shoot that Bear Bull dipshit in the face and fucking kill him was a step far above most other characters of that type.

But sure, stagnancy is supposed to be a happy ending for a gaggle of characters who've spent a portion of their artificial existences trying to fight their way out of it.
I don't know, if they have internet access then they have an infinitely growing library of content to read and watch. They could even publish new content and engage with IRL people. They could be on the Farms right now.

Edit: I completely forgot to bring up Miyazaki as an example, debateably the greatest animation director period, he was inspired by history, aviation, his childhood, literature, and the people he knew and loved around him. Is it any wonder why he fucking despises 99% of the shit that falls out of the ass of the animation industry?
Miyazaki is just a misanthropic asshole that hates his own family and would rather his animation company dies with him than train the next generation.

If anything he probably caused a lot of people to think that a writer needs to be something better than the rest of humanity.
